He's not happy with the offers in front of him and the Saints are offering a huge amount of cash.

Trying not get my hopes up (in Jan haha) but man, the idea of watching Pickett and Bolton at the feet of Treacy Amiss after the forwardlines we've had for 30 years is just too exciting.

Unfortunately (for Freo), I reckon, if not quite scorched earth, he'll need to be pretty damn strong on forcing his way out to even make Melbourne think about it given their history. We could get an official trade request in October and I'd still need to see a trade go through before believing it's happening.

Freo could trade Darcy and instantly get Pickett if they wanted to.

I do think a ton depends on how Freo go this year. A strong year means a crap pick and the 2026 pick likely to be even worse - will need to get creative. From a Melbourne POV I'd accept two mid first round picks if he is truly set on going (I wouldn't be letting him go if he's willing to stay if required unless Freo offer his actual worth, which is a IMO two late top 10 picks).

If the Dees dont return to the finals mix in 2025 I think this gets done, Kozzy to Freo.
They have 3x first rounders to use next year so its not like they dont have the capital to get it done.

Taking off my west coast hat here, I think Kozzy is a much better for Freo than Warner, and I think Freo know theyre probably a bit behind in the Warner chase anyway.

Dees will have done a rebuild without ever really falling down to the bottom of the ladder over a few years since losing Jackson, not an awful result for them tbh.

3 x 1st rounders?

1st rounders can range from Pick One to Pick TwentySomething.

Putting a value on a traded future 1st in next year’s draft is sometimes challenging. A traded future 1st 22 drafts away even more challenging.

For elite young players, particularly with 2 years contract to go it’s going to be about a bird in the hand.

The problem is if Darcy plays well this year they will want to keep him and if he doesn't (and if he gets injured again) his contract is so long and significant that no club would want him unless it was a salary dump (which won't happen). I think that ship sailed when they didn't let him leave as a free agent last year.

Hes not worth what Bolton got. Bolton is a significantly better player at this stage. Melbourne will be well compensated but it wont be Bolton compo.

Probably worth about pick 6-8 in a straight swap, given his contract status. Depending on how late the Dockers 1st is, will need to add change. Pick 10-15. Add an early 2nd (or an F1 with a 2nd coming back). Pick 15+. Will need to add an F1 or another late 1st.

Weird this is coming out now. If he wanted to leave he's 3 months late. Could have requested a trade. Didnt. Should get on with job and not create any drama for the demons (if the rumors are actually true).
