It is obvious under the Hardwick / McRae game plan how highly the quick defensive small forwards are regarded

Eg even a limited player like Castagna was highly rated

I think McRae would be ecstatic to get Schultz - fits absolutely perfectly in to his game plan

Plus one of the Pies big negatives this season was inability to kick a big score and accuracy. Schultz will also help with that too.

Very happy to have added Lochie.

Not happy with the opportunity cost, or with the fact that we just gave what Freo were asking. We're going to have to say no one of these days, or clubs will just ask for more and more.

But yeah he's a good player. Looking forward to seeing how he gels with our other forwards
You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes you get what you need. 🎶

Pain for us but left for family reasons. A real heart & soul player and looked set for a career season in 2024. He's going to smash it for you guys on the MCG, just ask Melbourne how he fairs against them in our wins over the last few seasons.

Finally built the tank to rotate through HFF and push his disposals to the high teens whilst still hitting the scoreboard heavily and leading in tackling.

Gutted he's left, least you can do is get him a premiership yeah? All the best for Shoota :'(

Outstanding trade. Happy
If anyone said to you "Hey Fat Heyzoos... would you take a player at pick 33 and a gamble next year (considering we're going to go back to back!) Future 1st, for a goal a game, plus goal assist pressure forward tackle machine, who has not missed a game for almost 3 years..."
We both know the answer!

Just because he ran around in the pocket for Freo doesn’t mean we play him there.

I suspect he’ll spend the summer mid/fwd and can see him being the high half forward.

No matter where he plays, he’ll be elite and we’ll love what he bring by around round 5!!

I am loving how the club is recruiting to fill our needs, just like last year.

From all reports we were not as efficient as most teams turning the ball over and maintaining it in our forward half.

The drafting of Shultz, certainly will assist in this space, on top of threatening goal side.

This.

We are elite at winning the ball and scoring from our defensive half, but we aren’t elite at scoring and winning the ball back from our front half like Brisbane, etc.

Having someone like Schultz come in will rectify that.

Happy with this, would've liked to have paid less but very happy nonetheless.

Look at his stats vs normies, has him covered.

Double the tackles, more possessions, more goals, more pressure efforts etc.

33 v 25 in the regular season is a fair difference especially considering the difference in system and delivery of the ball to him. Will only get better in our team and looks primed to have a huge year.

Onwards and upwards to 17!

We don't know the detail of the negotiation. What Fremantle asked for initially and any counteroffers we made.

There's only 1 fact, the agreed upon value between Freo and the Pies.

The club walked away with the player they wanted and the reputation of a good organisation to do business with.

Just as importantly the player wasn't made to feel like sh*t because the Pies low-balled his worth.

It's a fair result. I'd wager that Freo would rather have kept him.

And for those worried about the price….
He’s 25.let’s say we get 6 years out of him (being conservative).

So, would we get 6 years out of pick 30 (unlikely).
Would we get 5 years out of next years R1?
Maybe. But that 5+ years doesn’t actually start until the following year.
So my point being worrying about a future pick is 2-3 years from actually meaning anything.
In the time, if we pick up a FA, then that becomes moot,

I think next year is FA year.
We'll have a fair bit of $ off the books by then and some retired senior citizens.

We got killed by teams rebounding it out of our forward line in the finals, Schultz is a huge pick up, and going after A grade players in their prime is the perfect strategy for us right now.

We don't do carefully considered, balanced and objective assessments like this here Jath.

You must be passing through from that place further up the road.
