Leon Davis severs ties with Collingwood

Leon has talent no doubt, but I have watched many games of his.

He is one of the most disgraceful choices of AA selection in my whole life. He looks good when he has no opponent, is allowed to collect uncontested possessions when his team mates are winning the hard ball.

His goal against Hawthorn in the prelim was the first time I have seen him actually do something when it counted, as opposed to his usual flamboyant excellence vs teams that have already capitulated due to Swan, Pendlebury ect cutting them open all game.

What is the world coming to ?

A quality player in Leon Davis, coming off an AA Year is offered a contract for 200K - give a take a few dollars.

Insanity !

Pretty easy from recent dealings to see who Buckley rates as the most expendable players.

Great list management by Collingwood.

Now they get to keep some of their depth players, and let's face it, Leon Davis has never helped, and never was going to help them win a flag.

How many from the 22 member AA team would be on 200K ?

He was already on really good wedge after his last AA. Everybody knows you don't neccessarily pay players exactly what they are worth because of list management issues, and there is not a linear reationship between form and salary.

Over their entire career it averages out but in any given year a player may be over or underpaid compared to output. Luke Ball for example is on base wages in 2012. Davis is no exception. We has been well paid, even overpaid at times, over his ten years at the club.

They should guarantee Leon a coaching contract.

The reality is, they needed his veterans list spot to put another player up, and free up more dollars to keep a younger player that can help them for more than one year, like Macaffer.

They were going to chop him at the end of this year until he had an AA season. Being in a position where they would appear to be idiots for chopping an AA player, they push the right buttons with Leon and next thing you know, he's left without them having to cut him themselves, and the Pies can blame it on a salary cap squeeze.

So we can guess that no other player from the AA team will be playing for 200K per year.

Leon will not play in the AFL again, he will play WAFL next year and be working in the Aboriginal area. Get your money on it!
