I think he meant they haven't started talks with anyone that wants the shit show of gig.
I don't get why you think this isn't a great opportunity.
For starters, there are only 18 head coaching jobs in the country at any one time.
But more importantly, they are the best resourced club in the league. They have a stable administration. There will be next to zero expectations in terms of success for several years, plenty of time to learn the ropes and grow into the job. If you have any level of confidence in your ability as a coach and as a public communicator, it's a great job IMO

Because everyone knows whoever it is is almost certainly a caretaker coach that gets fired in 3-4 years. Happens almost every single time with a rebuilding team.

Yeah I'm already looking forward to FOS or Jagga holding up the premiership cup in the future with whoever our next coach is 😁

Happens almost every time with the same clubs.

Unlike Yze, who has come in the final year of the last cycle, the new Eagles coach comes in at least 2 years into a new one. It still has a way to go, but the primary cull will be over before they take their first pre-season session. We will also have more top 15 picks on the list than at any other time in our history.

What you are saying isn't wrong, but there is a chance the rebuild sacking has already happened with Simpson (as it did with Worsfold before him).

Because their list is in worse shape than ours, and well, stallon sucks.

Agree, it is career suicide. I think an experience coach, who can develop players well, is probably the best option.

Sam Mitchell is only the exception I think.

Which is why I really didn't mind the Hinkley option tbh. He took over Port when they were playing in front of f*cking tarps.

Anyone is high if they think Baker is worth a pick before 20 for a team and a list that is absolutely deplorable. I hope he chooses Freo because we need all the promising young draftees we can get.
To be fair, I think most agree joining WC is a weird move for Baker and even weirder for WC. If he was FA, it would be perfect

Definitely a chance, though I think with the haul Richmond are about to have, they might catch-up on youth numbers pretty quickly. Regardless, per the original question, if you are a good coach waiting for a senior opportunity, these are the type of jobs that dont exactly give you the best chance of success.

I actually thought keeping Simpson last year was a really good move for all these reasons. Seems like it became untenable but 1 more year might have been best for all if they could have placated the masses enough.

Baker is easily worth a pick before 20 for any club. While it doesn’t necessarily make a lot of sense for WC to recruit him, it does essentially guarantee you a best 22 player for the next 4-5 years. He is versatile so he can work around your developing players.

Keep in mind Baker has been a best 22 player for Richmond since 2019 and probably in our top 10-15 players most of that time. I don’t think there has been a single person asking for him to be dropped since 2019, that means he’s a pretty bloody consistent player, something you have very few of. I think his stature is clouding people’s view of his ability.

yeah and Baker is a very good player, but besides that
More around experienced, senior leader, who will likely be on the cusp or out of the squad by the time the team starts contending.

Never talked about ability.

In fairness, you didnt talk about any reasons.

I'm going to miss Liam but two first round draft picks will ease the pain.

Yep. Bolton should get you those two first rounders easily.
