Lindsay Thomas dropped

The evidence is given every week Thomas goes out to play, I watch most games and I've seen Thomas act hurt when he wasn't several times this year, and I'm sure anyone else who watches north melbourne games that isn't a north melbourne supporter will agree with me. Not to mention all the times he walks around with his head at stomach height trying to draw a free kick, just against west coast he was penalised 2 or 3 times for leading with/ducking his head to draw a free kick, I recall one against essendon where he was acting like he had been shot after drawing a free kick for something weak, and had goddard standing over him telling him to get up because it was obvious he was acting hurt, sure enough not long later he gets up and is fine. How about his mark last week where he laid on the ground pretending to be dead for 20 seconds after falling a metre and then got up and no surprise, he was fine. Or that disgustingly obvious dive against geelong, late last year if I remember correctly. But yeah keep pretending Thomas is a fair player, who only plays in the spirit of the game. We both know people don't spend their spare time going through games just to record people drawing free kicks and diving and then putting it on youtube, so don't play the evidence card when we both know the facts.
Repeating your opinions and prejudices over and over again, doesn't transform them into facts or evidence.

Which prejudices are those? They are facts though, I don't know why everyone in this thread except a few north supporters would be saying he ducks/dives etc if he didn't?

Lindsay is a top player, it is just plain silly in my opinion to say anything else. Whilst it is a shame that he is a compulsive stager/simulator/diver, and it is equally silly to say he is not, it is his "me first" attitude that has gotten him dropped I believe.

Players like Lindsay as good as they are, just destroy teams by not being a team player. Hawthorn are the benchmark in this competition, and one of the key reasons they succeed is because the whole group buy into the "team mentality". They don't have Lindsay Thomas types playing in the list.

Hopefully, this might be the start of Lindsay learning a few lessons and coming back a better team player. Watching North play when they are firing is just brilliant, I really would like to see him as a big part of that.

I don't think you'll find many North supporters who deny that Thomas ever has played for frees. That would be silly. In fact, he did it far more often in his first 2 or 3 seasons than in recent years. But of course, you would know this already, given that you "watch most games".

What's different lately? A few media flogs (mainly Darcy, Taylor etc) have made an issue of it, and portrayed him as a player who never does anything but stage and dive.

And sheep like you lap up this received wisdom, and decide that it is, somehow, fact.

Haha absolutely no idea.

Dont think anyone from any supporter base would agree with that ignorant ziebell comment.

As for Petrie, he's an All-Australian. If All-Australian selected players are pretenders then anyones a pretender.

If Gibson was at St Kilda, he would be your best outside midfielder. moron.

The goals kicked against rubbish sides against goals kicked against good sides = pretender

We have Montagna still who has made a career out of skirting around packs. So no, Gibson isn't worth a pinch of crap.

Yeah you know your football. You are right. Hahahaha

Was tempted to post the Darling throw the head back gif but then realized it would just bring me down to the level of those who have derailed the thread already.

It's a shame that discussing North finally dropping a "good" player has degenerated into LOLOLDROPDAKNEES.

Look up these words in a dictionary : 'fact' and 'opinion'. Maybe you should have paid attention back in Year 7 English.
The fact is Thomas is a diver, a ducker, and a stager, he's shown it plenty of times, if he didn't give the media flogs any ammunition, they wouldn't be able to "portray" him like anything, as if they even need to "portray him" at all, he does it himself. He made his own bed and now he needs to sleep in it, he may have done it more at the beginning of his career, but to be honest that says more about him than anything else considering he still does it more than anyone else who plays AFL. He's had 2 real quality seasons in 8 or 9 years, in a team that lacked any elite forwards so he was the best option up forward for that short amount of time, he is in no way elite, and wouldn't come anywhere near the best small forwards. No doubt he has talent, it's just a shame his selfishness and unsportsmanlike behaviour take the front seat, relying on weak acts rather than pure hard work and effort to get results, which explains why he has been dropped.

A single instance out of a 5 year career, of a 2nd year player doing something questionable is hardly a leg to stand on, jack doesn't have the reputation that lindsay does for good reason, that is probably the only time he's done something like that, whereas thomas has done things like that plenty of times, he got pinged for holding the ball 2 or 3 times earlier this year against the eagles for ducking his head, and that was just one game. What about that ridiculous dive against geelong he did? Or the obvious duck he did against essendon earlier this year to draw a free, but i guess when a handful of AFL greats say it's not in the spirit of the game, it doesn't mean anything. There's a reason the new high contact rule is known as the lindsay thomas rule.

I think other players lower their body for frees in tackles, ie Puopolo, who do not get any negative stigma, even guys like Pendlebury plays for free kicks all the time, it is 'clever' when a high profile player does it and they get rewarded, it is cheating when a small forward with a lower profile does it.

it is either outlawed or it isn't, the problem is they are not consistent with adjudicating it.

LT wasn't dropped because of the 'ducking', it was because he was missing a lot of relatively easy shots on goal and it was hurting the side.

I don't care what rule they put in place or what interpretation they have, but they have to be consistent with it, they have ignored blatant legitimate free kicks with the new interpretation against him and I think the AFL and the umpires in general have been extremely poor introducing the rule mid way through the season and relying on a bunch of amateur umpires adjust to it mid season.

I hate the fact that Lindsay dives and stages as much as any opposition supporter, staging really shits me to tears, but to say he is a terrible footballer is probably the stupidest thing I've ever seen on this forum. Even more stupid than the shit that gets spewed out in bay 13.

No mere gif either, a compilation gif. It's pretty epic, I can't find it but you should post it if you do.

A single instance out of a 5 year career

Would instantly make this comment look even stupider.

200th game on Good Friday. Remarkable having never made the top 10 in a B&F.

Without Harvey and Wells looking for him and the new ducking rules the game has gone passed him unfortunately. Be good to see a decent performance today.
