Didn't really matter about timing as there was no women's national draft before this season.
Nah, it just took this long for the AFL's computers to calculate it.

So why did they not have a National draft before this season?
Because of the change in timing from the men's preseason to post-season last year. There was no underage competition that fell into that gap, so they did a mature age draft only.

Ain’t gonna happen. When you have two backline players averaging 3 possessions or less and bugger all pressure acts, plus another backline player with not many more than that, goals will be flowing from Adelaide. Brisbane will go down big time.

Clown of the year.

Strange that you would come on to another board in your 3rd post and bag their players.
Suggest you try and get some credits on the Essendon board first before your next visit to an opposition board.

Didn’t bag anyone, just stating facts. Have a look at the stats. I find it odd that Brisbane generally sticks to the same team each week excepting when someone is injured, despite poor performances. They play fewer players than any other team and it costs them with lack of development of experience and depth.

Who would you suggest they drop, and for whom? I think depth is an issue. Hard to tell though because performances at the next level down are a bit of a black box unless you're ITK.

Not wanting to pick on people as I’m sure they’re all very nice, but Heslop and Dunne haven’t set the world on fire this year (stats as per above reference). Not ITK but have heard Bella Smith is going well in reserves (no, not relative or friend). Also think Pauga is good enough to be in the team. I know she’s mid/forward line but surely the team could be rejigged as has been done with others (again, no relative or friend).

I'm also concerned about our defence; we're missing Lutkins' experience down back and we're more exposed because the weakened midfield is allowing more and better-quality delivery into our backline. But I'm prepared to trust the coaches who have access to ALL the data and vision to make the right choices.

FWIW on exposed form I think a Brisbane win would be a major upset.

Stats like that are such a bullshit touchstone, especially for defenders. If you're playing a role and the team is moving the ball out of defence, then what's the complaint? We want the ball in the hands of Grider and Campbell to then link up with our wings in Conway and Ellenger who push back into defence often.

And what reserves? QAFLW season wrapped a while back so there there' no form for player not selected but training track form.

Dunne's finding her feet and they obviously think she'll improve more from exposure to competitive football than just training. Currently she's usually taking the tallest opposition forward and starting to show a little more each week. Heslop must be doing the job asked of her and is tidying enough (if not damaging) when required of her, although I think she's probably a placeholder. She's also currently allowing Koenen to play midfield a bit more, which helps fill the void left by Bates' departure.

B Smith and Pauga are emergencies, so not far away. Bella's young still and probably not far. Miki promises a lot but hasn't delivered so far at senior level. Beyond Kiara Hillier we don't have a great amount of depth down back.

Besides all that, we've debuted Dunne, Boltz, Ella Smith, Mullins, McKee and Wendland so far this year. It's not like we haven't been blooding young players.

Some goods points…I agree stats aren’t everything, but have watched plenty of games and they do not look very effective. If you’re not touching the ball and not applying pressure, are you playing the role…better than anyone else could?
The reserves play every week, often combining with the reserves of visiting teams I.e. GC and whoever they are playing, or Melbourne teams when down there. Usually a few hours before the main game. Have walked down to a few games.
Not saying I want Brisbane to go down, I just think they will. Adelaide is a very good team this year and Lions backline is exposed. Very happy to be wrong.
Bombers is my team in the men’s, not women’s.

I return to my original point, regardless of team selection, the way for any team to beat the Crows is first and foremost how you manage Hatchard and Marinoff.

I did not know that re; reserves. Not sure how that shakes out numbers-wise given we've got only 7-8 players on any given weekend who are not playing seniors or are not injured. I'd expect most teams would be similar.

I'm not arguing with the likely result. We're a bit below Melbourne and Adelaide. I'm just interested who you would play in defence other than those two you mentioned. The cupboard is pretty bare for defenders. The only other options would be moving one or both of Ellenger and Koenen back into defence, but I get the sense our coaches like them further up the ground.
