Ummmm why do I get the feeling it might be Hanley?

Taken from the courier mail earlier in the thread:

"I wanted him to know I recognised who he was so I put my arms in a macho-pose, flexing the biceps ... and he did it back at me," he said.

Doesn't he do this pose after kicking a goal?

After the revised story, I still can't work out what happened.

All I do know is that the latter story sounds more like an unfortunate scuffle, as opposed to what it was earlier made out to be.

I don't get what the I ran into him meant + "wheelchair wheelchair wheelchair" + then how he ended up having to brace for impact...I can't visualise the sequence of events from that story.

So he made fun of the guy and he then got in touch with a lawyer to try and get some money from the Lions?

Well, it doesn't really. You don't go around grabbing people in wheelchairs and pushing them around. That's not 'an unfortunate scuffle'. Not sure if it's breaking any laws but it's beyond just normal rudeness.

Plus pointing and laughing at someone because they're in a wheelchair is at least on par with racial vilification in my book.

I'll be keen to hear the other side of the story before I start getting stuck into Rich but the revised story is still pretty bad. This would require more than a fine and some community service, I would think.

The lawyer should be censured for the earlier false claims. Where is the accountability?

A quick google search reveals the lawyer's past. I'm not saying that it means it's not true (or parts of it are not correct), but I'm thinking I was right to initially view this with skepticism. I'm not saying nothing occurred, but it may be a case of opportunism.

You forgot ran into the guy as well.

So we actually have a bloke who can't yet control his wheelchair running into a Lions player, who then pushes him off. Bloke makes fun of said player, who plays along and in the process drops his kebab. Opportunistic bloke then concocts a story for the police and entails an ambulance chaser to represent him.

Lionel Hutz?

...And hey Presto! All those demands that the involved player be immediately de-listed have disappeared!

Sorry, but if the allegation is substantiated, I don't care who it is - Delist him!

As far as apologies go, nothing rings hollower than the sound of an elite sportsperson apologising for drunken post season hooliganism.

I would think, if proven that the revised story is accurate a fine/education/apology/community service (most likely with a disability support group) would be exactly the appropriate response. A chance to punish, educate and reform.

Much the same way as racial villification is now addressed in the AFL.

Is it, though? I honestly can't remember an incident where a player racially vilified a member of the public.

Like I said, let's wait and see. It's too early to start burning effigies of Daniel Rich, but equally it's too early to rule out an on-field penalty.

Allegations will most likely turn out to be true.

Shithouse form by whoever was involved.

I am so disillusioned by our football club at this point in time.
Calm people. It wasn't that long ago that allegations of drug taking within our Club started circulating from a Cousin of Ash McGrath and those quickly turned into nothing more than somebody out for some cheap publicity. Let's all draw a deep breath and let the media hounds come up with more details!

Why does the fact they are a member of the public affect it though?

I'm not sure what you mean, notting.

This sounds pretty bad. Maybe it's an opportunity to educate players, but that's not necessarily all it is.

That'd be a costly delisting with his newly inked contract still drying!!
