I’d be expecting a mature age KPD (Hartley replacement) and ruck/fwd (brooksby replacement) to come onto the list as well, based on our list profile in the last few years.
Maybe just as rookies.

No need we have Hartigan, Frost and Callow for FB. An Lynch to work with Reeves in the ruck if the trade is completed.

Watch the scavengers come for our free agents at the end of next year, they will be the one over looked in the trade period this year. Hopefully we benefit as the bombers did in 2019.

Who are our free agents next year? Sicily right? Well, that's first band compo.....

It's none of Wingard, O'Meara or Mitchell

Don't think there's much value in a 33yo Gunston.

Would we match an offer for Sicily? Assuming we finished in the same spot next year.
If DGB emerges, my guess would be no. Definitely no if we get Band 1.

Edit. Lol, just read the McCartney take. Seems like we are keen for the relationship to continue.

Gunston, Sicily and McEvoy the only 2022 free agents on that list. Ceglar will be long gone.

is it the right way though, seems it worked well in the priority pick era, not so much now. Anyway if more teams were doing it maybe we could have picked up a lake or a McEvoy type. Not so available these days

I'd argue that it's even easier now to pick up the missing pieces via trades and free agency. It just comes down to what you can afford to pay. Loyalty is a thing of the past.

We were desperate to replace Max and paid handsomely for Big Boy. Same for Silk. There are scores of examples of this happening with other clubs in the last few years and will happen more often in the foreseeable future by clubs who think they are in the window.

I think we'll re-sign him mid year for good money. He'll want to prove his worth post-ACL and we'll also want to be sure he's recovered. He's got multiple elite qualities and I still reckon will be our next captain (and would already be if it weren't for the ACL).

That's a list of OOC.....the post and I was asking for FA, which from that list looks like its Ceglar, Gunston, Hartigan, McEvoy, Shiels, Sicily

Chad not a FA, hasn't been at club for 8 years

Will be the huge call won't it? Guess it depends how far along the others come.

Siicly is AA , but he'd be 28 before the 2023 season starts. So if we finish bottom 4, it would be mighty attractive to take a top 5 compo pick

I would considering our abundance of intercept markers in the back half, depends where we finish. Be hard to ignore 2 picks inside 5 tho in a rebuild. He's homegrown tho.

I honestly think we should silence any Sicily trade talk/stress and make him captain next year. I imagine he'll take some time to regain his technical grasp on the game, but if he's ready to adopt the captain's mindset - vote him in and sign him for a long term deal.

Chad was drafted in 2011 at pick 6, in 2022 that is 10 years of service. How is he not a free agent?

And thats 10 years of AFL service
Not Club service
That is my point exactly

  • The condition that a player must have come out of contract after eight years to then qualify for Unrestricted Free Agency at 10 years has been removed (irrespective of when a player had signed his previous contract, all ten-year players are Unrestricted Free Agents);
