The club’s handling of Hartigan is interesting. Doesn’t play for either Hawthorn or Box Hill. He has been our AFL runner some weeks recently. Assume agreement has already been made that he will retire with a year left on his contract.
That's what I think. I've got no inside knowledge, but he's played that on bench mentor role if he's not in the coaches box.Has he got a gig lined up as an assistant with us? Has been seen on the bench talking to the youngsters at Box Hill during the year.
Sam is committed to Worps.
I rewatched the Gold Coast game in 2019 recently, amazing just the size difference between now and then. His contested work was good enough at what would be 10kg less.Would like to see Worps shed a few kilos in the offseason. Was much leaner, quicker and more agile in his B&F year. Tried to bulk him up too quickly and he has lost that turn of speed.
Oliver is easily the best contested mid for mine. And he’s fairly lean.I rewatched the Gold Coast game in 2019 recently, amazing just the size difference between now and then. His contested work was good enough at what would be 10kg less.
Incorrect for this year. Mitchell has played a very different role. Worpel has struggled this year for what is probably a number of reasons. For this year at least, that is not one of them.I think it’s become increasingly clear that its worps or Mitch in our best 22.
I don’t want to discredit what Tom has given us, and I think he is clearly the better player now, but for the long term think we need to turn him into a 20ish pick and move on.
I just hope we can do it without much angst or disruption to the group.

I think he’s the player Worps should be modelling his game on. Similar strengths and weaknesses.
List changes need to be made but you'd think that it would be.All players have things worth persevering with, otherwise they'd not be drafted in the first place. The reality of it is that list changes need to be made.
On the second point, who's Jack?
A guesstimate from theiaofseedHis draft year weight was 85.5kg.
His weight this season was 88kg (Hawthorn site).
Where is this extra 10kg theory coming from?
Which people?Wasn't too long ago people were talking about him as potential captain material so he's obviously got the right attitude.

At his (185cm) height some players can comfortably carry 90+ kgs. He's been listed at 88kg for a couple of years now and we are notoriously bad as a club for measurements. 10kg is a bit much but I wouldn't be surprised if he was around 92-93. He has looked considerably bigger.

Petracca for instance is about Worps height (maybe 1 or 2cm taller), plays at 97kg and covers the ground exceptionally well (mind you he is a freak in that regard)
Duke as well is not much taller than Worps and I will eat my hat if Jai isn'y playing at 90kg+ and like Petracca he just glides across the ground with great speed and evasiveness.
I guess it all comes down to the individual players physiology and build.
I must admit I did see Worps play a game this year and he looked so slow and lumbersome, no pep at all in his movements so possibly he could be a player that needs to play at his lower weight range to get the best out of himself.
It was a pretty widely held view after he won a B&F at age 20, was given the number 5 jumper and entered into the leadership group by 22. His regression has been a huge surprise. If we can get him back to his B&F level it's a massive boost to our midfield stocks moving forward. With 3 years of poor performance, that is now a large 'if' though. He is worth persevering with in my view though. We have been able to develop a number of guys who didn't look AFL standard into good players. Worpel can do it, it just needs to be recaptured. I'd rather keep him and move on older guys we know have passed their peak and won't improve from here.He was in the leadership group last year so it’s not that outlandish a statement.
Who has been mentoring Worpel in the middle? Don't say T.Mitchell & JO'M, cause that's hilarious. It was a pretty widely held view after he won a B&F at age 20, was given the number 5 jumper and entered into the leadership group by 22. Worps looks way too top heavy now for mine. To carry the extra weight as a footballer you need more of it in your legs and core. Least it’s what I’ve observed. The stronger your legs are the more weight you can carry. At his (185cm) height some players can comfortably carry 90+ kgs.

Petracca and Newk definetly fall into this category.Worps looks way too top heavy now for mine. To carry the extra weight as a footballer you need more of it in your legs and core. Least it’s what I’ve observed. The stronger your legs are the more weight you can carry.
