Don't think he had much choice, you cant play $800k players at Box Hill
Do you try to post the worst takes?

JOM was never going to be relegated to Box Hill.

i do find it interesting the plaudits JOM gets on here vs Mitchell. Both have been moved to secondary roles but JOM gets praised and Mitchell gets called a spud. Yet Mitchell is probably having a better season and is ahead of JOM in almost all major stat categories. Both are poor users of the ball. But the BigFooty ‘eye test’ is massively divorced from the stats.

You had me at "both are poor users of the ball"

100% agree with you

Of course not, because of the role he’s now playing.
Irrelevant, he wasn't a top 30 mid before being removed from the midfield. There are 18 sides. He wouldn't be in the top 2 mids at most sides as would be required to be top 30. He's not now in the top 2-3 mids at Hawthorn, and we have one of the weakest midfields in the comp.

JOM has had the most clearances and tackles for us.

Mitchell the most contested possessions.

Both have been relegated to more peripheral roles but have done well at the contest.

Mitchell has the bigger games but makes a lot of poorer decisions especially around calling for the ball and hack kicks inside 50. Which I think draw the ire of a lot of supporters (me included).

And here I am trying to work out why opposition teams are tagging the kid who has played 27 games.

But you answered my question.

Score involvements from the 3 are about the same.

Jai’s more damaging than the other 2 by foot but he also plays more outside which enables him to be tagged more than the others.

Future 4th for Grundy.
Probably one of the few clubs that wouldn’t be asking for Collingwood to pay part of his contract. And also not immediately rivalling them for a flag.

Think Collingwood would love us to be his option but I doubt he would want to come

Again - nobody (outside of Hawthorn2023) is calling Tom a spud. People need to stop with this 'stop hating on Tom' business. Most people who are willing to objectively critique what he is presently offering for the side and being realistic about him possibly being trade collateral don't hate him and don't think he is a spud. Try some nuance.

I like to ask the question whether we would be a better player with or without player X or player Y.

I don't think we would look better without JOM but I think we perhaps move on very quickly without Tom.

JOM is a very selfless player doing the hard yards for the team. He plays a non flashy role much like Shiels did for years. He makes us a better unit.

While Tom, as good as he is at what he does well, seems a square peg in a round hole with Sam's game plan. The pain of moving him on might be very short lived as I feel we would adjust quite quickly. It's not so much a criticism of Tom v JOM but rather a best fit for the team.

Teamwork is the thing that talks.

Club was willing to move either on last year for a good offer. It just didn't come.

Mitchell is more likely to net a decent return in a trade, but it's unlikely to be in the top 20 picks.

Cadman is a unique type of forward, he plays like a Jeremy Cameron more than a Mitch Lewis, he generally leads up the ground and has good ability to pick up the ball from the ground and marking like an intercept defender (which he used to be last year) the only knock on him is his goal kicking, at this stage it reminds me of early days Rough and Buddy where they went at 55-60% goal kicking accuracy, as far as pressure he is decent at that i guess, he is a more dynamic than powerful forward

heres a small example of his play against WA

That vision is not very complimentary for Cadman. He literally missed every shot on goal he had.

Of course the role he plays as a quasi-forward is relevant to whether he’s considered a top 30 mid or not.
