I asked the question regarding this on blitz. They said we can upgrade 5 rookies, but we have 6. So, is this ruling out McKenna for some reason?
McKenna can be upgraded too. He's just listed separately to the 5 rookies.

Category B would be my guess.

I keep seeing first dibs on players we use as top ups. Forget it. Will not happen. Their contracts will be the same as last seasons top up players.
We can not sign them for any longer than the players are out and we will not have first choice of them at the end of the season.
So no we do not pick young inexperienced players. We have enough of our own. This first dibs thing is a bit greedy.

Sorry, I don't know the rules regarding cat b rookies, but I'm a big McKenna fan. Given the potential he showed I'd think he'd be one of the logical upgrades. Or because cat b fall under different rules he's not.

Been looking into the state leagues a lot more over the past couple of days. I really hope we don't go for older players (with the exception of a couple) and give some blokes that have either been unlucky in past drafts or have qualities that could make them long-term AFL players a shot. This is the only way we have a chance at getting a player that might be on our list come 2017.

Rucks

Tom Bellchambers - Darcy Cameron: Young, athletic tap ruckman that was surprisingly overlooked a few years ago. Has been playing in the WAFL and last year added versatility to his strengths as he proved an effective tall forward option.

Other options: Nick Meese, Jarrad Redden

Defenders

Michael Hurley - Jake Wilson: Lockdown tall defender.

Cale Hooker - Pat Levicki: Athletic tall defender that had a breakout year that surprisingly didn't get him drafted. Has good skills and reads the play well, will be able to slot right into our defence if required.

Other options: James Ferry, Tyler Keitel

Midfielders

Heath Hocking - Ryan Crowley: Absolute no-brainer for me, couldn't give a stuff about the bad press this signing might give us. Can't wait to see him back again annoying the **** out of whoever we decide to put him on.

Jobe Watson - Jacob Ballard: Another big-bodied inside midfielder who is very good around stoppages. The knocks are his footskills and speed.

David Myers - Daniel Coghlan: Should already be on our list

Dyson Heppell - Nick Rippon: Absolute star in the VFL. Wins it on the inside, wins it in the outside and kicks goals.

Brent Stanton - Chris Jansen: Another one who was surprisingly overlooked in the draft after an excellent year in the SANFL. Started off a back flank before being moved onto a wing and then transitioning into an inside midfield role where he flourished. Jansen is a big bodied midfielder who is a force around stoppages and possesses very good skills on the outside. Only real weakness is his lack of speed.

Other options: Aaron Black, Ben Cavarra, Joel Cross, Marlon Pickett, Kaine Stevens, Ozgur Usyal.

Forwards

Travis Colyer - Sam Dunnell: Had an awesome year in the VFL. Plays primarily off a forward flank but has proven effective when moved onto a wing and down back.

Ben Howlett - James Polkinghorne: Won our VFL BnF, deserves the chance.

Other options: Jonathon Beech, Shane McAdam.

Others

Michael Hibberd: We already have a bunch of back flankers (unfortunately none as good as him).

Tayte Pears: Hardly even a loss.

Really? How many of them were delisted by Essendon? O'Brien was surplus to requirements and they didn't think he'd be good enough before, why would he be now?

Obrien is an inside mid who was behind Watson, hocking, Myers, Heppell, Stanton. With those 5 not available he's certainly a player that would be getting a game like he did last season when 3 of those missed most of the year.

Sorry to intrude, just heard a rumour "a.goodes", not a great source, but possibly gives him a year with his bro.

I also heard that from a reliable source but it quickly turned the other way.

Would love to see Matthew Watson get another shot. Carlton managed him horribly and I think he can be a serviceable forward. Solid in the VFL last year in a poor side and kicked 2.1 with 8 marks playing on Brian Lake in his last AFL match for 2015.
Was a big fan of Nick Holman and surprised when he was cut but there's probably a lot of other options available for his size.
Any thoughts on Brett Eddy from South Adelaide? 109 goals from 39 games in last 2 SANFL seasons. 25yrs 192cm 93kg. Thought he was a rookie chance the last 2 yrs but wasn't picked up.

who was the eddy fanboy around here? Jack Package?

Probably been discussed earlier, but thoughts on Fev?

Will draw people to grounds just to see him play. Will have to sort his shit out but plenty worse.
Fev is a side show that has been mentioned for laughs. no one would seriously consider him.

Warrick Capper on the other hand should be approached.

Sorry to drop in boys but how about Clancy Wheeler from Subiaco? Very handy utility and has played good footy for the state wafl side.
