hawthorn finish 3rd on the ladder and only have 2 in the all aust
and the doggies finish bottom 4 and tehy have two in aswell

this award is rubbish

Agree ... Robert Murphy ??

I love big Drew and his comeback from two broken feet has been nothing short of remarkable, but the selectors have gotten this one quite clearly the wrong way around. Given his workload, Goldstein's year has been quite phenomenal.

Agreed, I can see why they did it, I just dont undestand why they bothered when they havent for the rest of the side.

Which was the last year in which players were actually picked in position?

Anyone who is saying James Kelly didn't deserve to make it needs to get their head checked. Easily the best Geelong midfielder this year, very consistent, and does nearly everything.

Also, for Richmond supporters crying over Rob Murphy, Scotland was better then Deledio anyway. Scotland was good.

Don't think Petrie is the 'worst' selection ever as touted a little bit earlier. Was very good, had too many poor games though, like Milne and Johnson. Goldstein however, didn't have those amazing games, but was rarely beaten, and when he was, he was still good.

Scarletts season wasn't terrible either. Not a 'farce' to be selected over Gibson/McPharlin, but I would have picked them myself.

Murphy still kicked 22 goals and had 19 assists. Swan had 31 goals and 23 assists. Fyfe had 18 goals and 14 goal assists.
Not sure what people are complaining about in regards to Murphy and Swan over Fyfe on the HFF. Maybe Steve Johnson as he had what, 50 goals and 30 goal assists. But he missed 2 games, and had poor games vs Hawks-round 12, Adelaide, Essendon (kicked 3 goals but was terrible til the last 5 minutes) and Sydney from what I can remember. 4 very poor games, a few other average ones and 2 missed.

Thompson stiff.

Was just happy with Goodes/Cox/Dal Santo and Ablett all making it. They were pretty much locks, but you never know.

True, teams that perform well tend to be better represented.
But ultimately it is about individual players, not the success of the team. So it is not so weird that a team that finishes 3rd has as many selections as a team that misses the finals.

Lockett in the Forward Pocket? :D

Disagree with a few positions there, but overall I wouldn't make too many changes from a personal front.

Would probably only go with one of Glass or Scarlett. Neither really play the permanent FB role so much anymore. Gibson could come in for one of them.

Murphy just shouldn't be there. Move NDS off the bench onto that flank, then move one of the pretend forwards onto the bench and give Fyfe the position he earned.

Possible straight swap of Boyd for Thompson just to recognise a very good year. Boyd has been good, but Thompson lifted above him.

Petrie for Goldstein too. Roos fans? I think between Goodes and (the overlooked inclusion of) Fyfe there's enough other forward targets, so precedence should be given to another ruckman in Goldstein.

That's not really vastly different in the end. There's still a few unlucky guys like Scotland and McPharlin, but that's always going to happen. I think Scotland was done over by Davis playing some scintillating footy, and McPharlin was slightly off his best at the end there which may have swayed the decision.

It is just hilarious the degree to which people hate Matthew Scarlett.

The first 15 games of the year he was untouchable. Clearly the most dominant defender in the competition, along with probably Fisher. Had two quiet ones, everyone jumped off and have just disregarded his strong finish.

And yet everyone rates Darren Glass, who played the same role as Scarlett in terms of playing on the 2nd and 3rd talls every week, only difference being Scarlett can actually get the ball and play football.

Let's be honest though, FB this year was basically a case of "who's left?" after Jamison went down. Still, should have gone to Gibson or McPharlin who were the best at stopping the best forward every week.

Great to see Milne finally get an AA selection and Dal Santo get a spot on the bench.

Don't agree with the way they put midfielders at half forward, although Marc Murphy and Swan are deserving of selection.

Can't understand how Robert Murphy got selected ahead of the likes of Scotland, Fisher, McPharlin and Burchill, he was picked more on reputation than anything.

Thanks for posting. That is a great team, and all of those players were successful and proven in those specific positions/roles. Awesome.

People complain about too many midfielders in the recent AA teams,
but those monstrosities from the 90's are much worse.

3 CHF's and 2 FF's. Gimme a break.
