Opinion Longmire or Scott?

Who’s the better coach in the AFL?
I asked if Longmire was the best coach in the Geelong opposition thread, just a question and toys came out of the pram!
But Scott wins on premierships 2-1, however if Longmire was to salute this week then 2-2 for cups and Johnny has 5 GF’s and same amount of finals finishes to the number of years coached.
Swans travel every 2nd week would make it more difficult too….
Hoping neutrals can give an honest opinion on whether they think Scott or Longmire is the better coach.

Not sure if its more Scott/Assistant coaches or the recruiting department... but the cats have always found excellent players in the lower leagues/rookies and made them into genuine best 23/AA calibre players

Blicavs, Stewart, Mannagh, Dempsey, Tim Kelly etc

Scott for me

Hardwick is the best coach .

Scott has Longmire covered because of 2022 but like Longmire’s record in GF’s Scott’s record in Prelims isn’t much better .

Hardwick WAS the best coach.
Just like Clarko WAS the best coach before Hardwick's run.

Based on the past 4 years, you'd have to say that Fagan is as good as any going around right now.

I don't think at this point in time there is any absolutely stand-out coach that is significantly better than the rest.

If you want to take all current coaches and ask who has the best overall career, its:

Clarko > Hardwick > C.Scott > Longmire > Fagan / Beveridge / McRae / Goodwin > Lyon > Hinkley > the rest

Probably just lump Hinkley in with "the rest". Early doors, but I think A Kingsley for one will end up ahead of him. Don't really see him as any better than Voss either.

He's made a bunch of Prelims, so to be fair he needs to be above all of the newer coaches (except McRae).

I'd be shocked if Kingsley and Sam Mitchell haven't overtaken him in 4 or 5 years time.

Perception and opinions change when a coach gets a flag.

Fagan lost narrowly in that 2023 grand final. Some people said he wasn't good enough or too old.

A year later Fagan wins a flag at 63 years old

A flag is the primary goal of the club/coach/players. Particularly for Coaches and Clubs it should be what they are graded on at the end of the day.

What Fagan was able to do over the past six years... that earned him his position in my list. Make a couple more GFs and he is on par with Longmire, win it again next year and he shoots up above him.

The best was mid year when David King goes on a rant saying Fagan isn't good enough, doesn't have that hard edge that C Scott has so Lions should come and poach Scott from Geelong before their window is shut.

A few months later and they win the flag and also beat Scott on the way there.

LOL
