Ticket prices are a bit of a cop out, doesn't stop other finals gets good numbers, last year there were more dogs fans there who also had to cover accommodation and travel expenses

When we're talking ticket prices you have to remember the price giants fans usually pay is zero (0).

The biggest fallacy in modern day AFL history, is that they just need GWS to be "successful" and everything will be ok. Well they are in for a rude shock!
Just because they win a flag, or even 3 , dosen't mean people are going to develop an interest in a sport they are otherwise not interested in! Will not happen, particularly to the point of becoming members and attending games.

Melbourne Victory won flags, and Melbourne Storm in the NRL in their second year. I couldnt give a rats arse about either of those codes and wouldnt open my blind if they were playing on my front lawn. GWS IS doomed to failure.
That's your opinion though, however Storm and Victory have both been a huge success.
But they're also in a different market to the Giants that are much more interested so you can't compare them. Either way the Giants will never be at the level of sustained success standing on its own 2 feet that the Storm are.

Whetrger peole want to admit it or not the AFL should be very concerned with the crowd size on Saturday night, if people don't want to attend finals what hope have they got?
Then the add on of a prelim with GWS at the MCG selling out within hours but the figures for Giants members tickets allocation of 1256, they just don't care and the competition has been compromised for this...

I watched the replay on DVD yesterday and there was certainly more red blue and white noticeable on tv

Ah I think you are confusing two points;

Point 1) NRL supporters and disinterested Sydney-siders / Swans supporters will be less likely to go to a Giants AFL Semi Final in Sydney (and I think this is fair enough, why should they?)

Point 2) Giant fans do care, and if more home games were held in non-Swans AFL territory, there will not only be a greater attendance but a lot more Giant supporters.

Except for in the JLT and NAB, AFL clubs rarely get out to play in some of the regions they pull players from (including the Melbourne teams) but you put a large stadium in a relatively densely populated area out there and then you will see the heart and soul of the Giants.

Tumours grow everyday too; that doesn't make them a good thing though.

Dogs support was significantly louder on TV and one of my best mates who went verified there was a lot more support for the dogs. I'm unsure why you're so sensitive about this, considering Footscrays drought and GWS being a new club I'd be surprised if they didn't outnumber you.

I don't doubt that Giants fans care, what I'm saying is the vast majority up there don't care and would justifiably have the AFL concerned that the competition as a whole has been compromised for not much gain.

Def louder. Agreed.

50 50 support though.

Not getting numbers to a fonal in Melbourne is hardly a major concern. The Semi final crowd was disappointing, but to say the Storm are successful and we aren't is silly.
We are building and the club membetship last year was 2.5k ahead of long term projections. We were never going to match crowds in traditional AFL states after 7 years, and this was always expected.
We've been competitive for two years possibly you could say this is the third.
It was never going to be quick or easy, and we are here to stay. Anyone can dislike that, get really angry, or lose sleep over it. Might be easier to accept it in the long run though, but who cares really.

It's not true though, and causes me to doubt you were there.
How about facts are provided to back the statement.

Bulldogs members bought 8100 tickets compared to the Giants members buying 6200.

The crowd was 21.790. Giants fans would have had to buy a lot more of the general admission tickets then Dogs fans to have had more fans there.

At worst, it was very close to 50-50. Steve Johnson who I daresay was there has publicly said he thought there was 60-70% Bulldog fans, which isn't the case but whilst you can completely dismiss it, there's a very good chance there were more Bulldogs fans there.

None of this really matters to 2017 but:

This was reported by the AFL immediately after the game.

1. Dogs fans love a good road trip

This game was played at Spotless Stadium, but if you closed your eyes you'd think you were smack bang in the middle of Footscray, with the Dogs' supporter base out in force. The Giants were booed onto the ground for the warm-up, with former Bulldogs captain Ryan Griffen given a hostile reception when he was introduced on the big screen pre-match. The orange army made their presence felt once the game commenced, but it was strange to see opposition fans outnumber that of the home side, especially on such a big occasion. 21,790 fans packed the stadium to create a brilliant atmosphere, proving the League's decision to stage the game on the Giants' home deck was the right one.

This was reported by the ABC before the game.

The AFL will look for a midweek sell-out of the Greater Western Sydney versus Western Bulldogs preliminary final after disappointing sales to Giants members were balanced by a strong pick-up from the Melbourne club's supporters.

Bulldogs members snapped up 8,100 seats at the Giants' Sydney Showground stadium home ground during the exclusive member sale period on Monday, compared to a disappointing 6,200 purchased by the host's members.

The AFL said the remaining 4,600 unsold member tickets then went into general admission availability for the 24,000-capacity venue.

At close of business on Monday the AFL said only another 1,800 general admission tickets were available for sale.

Can you provide a source to your quote, it's strange to say the least pisting an "article" 12 months after the event with no source, that I haven't seen previously

You're still focussing on point 1), for example, would you say that WCE does not have a good enough supporter base because they did not attend the game? Or that the Swans do not have a good enough supporter base because they did not go to the Giants semi final?

I believe you will most likely state
Ans 1) because the game was too far away from the supporter base
Ans 2) why should an AFL supporter support another team, an AFL game should not be held in another clubs AFL territory when that club isn't even playing. This is like playing a Fremantle vs Western Bulldogs game in Adelaide.

Link has already been provided by the previous Bulldogs supporter - I've corrected it in mine from HS to ABC. It's the genuine "article".

The first quote is from Adam Curley of AFL Media in "4 things we learned" after the game.
