Mick was successful at turning assistants into senior coaches

Clarkson has now done the same with Beveridge, Hardwick, Simpson, Leon Cameron and some extent Bolton. Think Ratten has another chance of senior coaching in the future?
Beveridge spent time under both Clarkson and Malthouse. He was the 'pies development coach in '09 and '10.

Was he? :$ Watters, McKenna, Neeld..

They were cultural issues within those 3 clubs
Coaches in recent times haven't departed on best of terms in those clubs

Saints sacked Grant Thomas. Ross Lyon left and no surprise Watters sacked

Demons. Daniher, Bailey & Neeld sacked
Suns. McKenna, 1st ever coach sacked, al ready starting off to poor culture

Blues same. Pagan, Ratten sacked. Sometimes have to stick by coaches to avoid issues like ones I've mentioned

Coach of the Year hands down ..

The Doggies, under Bevo are the feel good footy story of the season.

Didn't think their form could last this deep into the season.

Love the fact he isn't afraid to make ballsy calls, like dropping Tom Boyd to the VFL .

The Doggies have a gem in Bevo.

The trick will be maintaining it over several seasons, recent precedence have shown teams that surprisingly rocket up the ladder after getting a new coach can fall away just as fast.

Looking at Adelaide 2012 and Port 13-14 as examples.

It's a salient point Catstorm. All the enthusiasm of a new coach and game plan turns back to sheer hard work and determination in the off - season.

One thing with Bev though is he certainly seems to still be playing the long game, is massively changing the team up experimenting with different players, and players in different positions. He's using the VFL for players who are clearly best 22 to form good habits.

There is so much depth and fighting to keep your spot in this team I think/hope the hunger levels will be immense.

Time will tell.

Correct. But that's an issue for next year.

This year it's all about the ride.

And to think we could have signed him when we chose to sign the angry dwarf.

sigh

No with all due respect Alan is the better coach.
Whats happening now at the dogs is freedom. The players love bevo and the young guns are loving it.

Some awesome talent.

What we're seeing is very similiar to the Dogs' turnaround in 1997. Players responding to different standards and playing with a bit of freedom. I'm enjoying the resurgence at this stage but nobody can predict sustained success.

Hopefully you guys go down the same path and bring in one of Clarko's under studies is Bolton. The results speak for themselves. It's a must IMO

Thats debatable, Very debatable. Beveridge is a fantastic coach who brought St Bernard's from divi 3, to divi 1 in 3 years and has learned so much from fantastic coaches. There is no reason why Beveridge or Richardson should be slated above each other, as both have done a fantastic job

Agreed, but I think that WSmith misunderstood who JeffDunne was talking about in his post. He was referring to Scott Watters.

Seems like a great coach.. and good bloke too.

If I was a doggie, I'd be a very, very happy doggie.

I put $12.50 (all I had in acc) on the dogs to win the flag (@$81) in that game against the Sainters when the Dogs were thrashing them...
Then the Sainters came back to win
Dogs are a chance imo :thumbsu:

Wow, what an absolutely brilliant appointment by the Doggies, instilled a toughness and pressure into a (previously) talented, but somewhat timid playing group ..

I know the Dogs copped some heat for sacking McCartney and their off-field turmoil last season, but they look like such a rejuvenated footy club.

Congrats Dogs fans, you're on a winner with 'The Drink' as your new coach:)

Still have lots of soft outsiders, won't make the 8, forward line is insect like.

Dogs pushing top 4 now and have won only 1 less game than Eagles and Hawthorn. Who are these soft outsiders you refer to Dugdale2Dwyer? And Stringer, red path, Boyd and Crameri insect like? Please explain?

There up and about that's for sure, could go deep into september.

Theres no way were a contender just yet but **** anything can happen in finals, especially with the double chance. I just think were going to be really up and our game is suited perfectly for finals footy. I'm expecting at least one win in a final and considering where we're coming from I'm just so ****ing happy, wouldn't care if we didn't win another game for the year tbh, this season has already provided so much. Just wait until Boyd gets going!

True no hard facts yet. Just an opinion of who and what I know.

If you think the saints missed getting a bloke who has been a saint and around them for 30+ years through lack of due diligence ... think again! I would argue we know bevo better than anyone and chose richo accordingly. IMO Richardson will become the next clarko. He is a tactical genius wih everyting else you need.
Dont get me wrong BEVO is a great coach! Knows how to communicate the players will know the message and where they are at. Im only saying Richo is slightly more radical and tactical and slightly more professional and slightly a better teacher.
Anyway pointless saying it now as we are literally 5 years away from seeing this. Im justvgetting in early for bragging rights of being right big noting myself for the future!
:)

Still disagree. There isn't many coaches out there that can turn Matthew Boyd's career around and putting him on a half back flank. That was a master stroke. Not to mention what he's done with Liam Picken.
His ability to know when to attack, and when to defend is already fantastic.

You're calling Richo the next Clarko but you must be forgetting that Beveridge worked with Clarko everyday for 4 years!!
