Fair enough but then what does make Darcy?
He's definitely a first Ruck.

That's why I'm saying it's interesting for Freo.

Freo have a very healthy list. Meek can play. Amiss looks promising. They have Johnson and Erasmus as young mids.
My guess is Froe will cross that bridge down the track.
It’s also why I think the money being mentioned in the media might be way off.

Chances are Jackson’s manager went to Fremantle saying he wanted to come home. Fremantle then may have thought it’s too good an opportunity to turn down.

Melbourne will get a fairish trade, but I’d suggest the Melbourne fans who think Fremantle are going to desperately hand over 2 firsts are going to be very disappointed.

They probably should have done better homework before recruiting a WA boy, so I’d put this one in the stiff bickies Melbourne category.

Yeah it's the same reason why I question Melbourne are interested in Grundy. It makes little sense as neither Gawn or Grundy are forwards.

I think you've completely de-valued Jackson here. Melbourne accepting 2 late firsts is a loss for Melbourne. And many dees fans would be disappointed at losing a 20 yr old ruck prospect taken at pick 3 and rising star after only a few seasons. At the start of the season I would've asked for 3 first rounders. His value has diminished so I would reluctantly accept 2. If it's one first rounder, it's pick 2. No different to Cerra.

Strange player, he's kind of in the wrong position(s) because of his size.

Played alright against Brisbane when Gawn was out, but not as a winning ruckman. Loses more of the hit outs, but has the speed to either snare the ball or the opposition player with his second efforts after the ruck contest. Seems to do this when he's relieving Gawn also.

Not really a forward's arseh*le.

Would be better on a wing maybe.

Guarantee he finishes as a Centre Half Back

The way Jackson is playing right now if roles were reversed would you pay 2 firsts for him?

He’s a 20 year old ruckman. Go look at Sean Darcy, Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy, Tim English ect.. at 20 years old. Jackson is miles ahead of the them.

To get a prospect of Jackson’s caliber you needed a top 3 pick in his draft. For a 20 year old ruckman (winning the rising star) he’s lived up to that pick. If you wanted to trade up for pick 3 in this years draft, that is what it should take to get Jackson.

I would. how many other 20 year olds are playing ruck in the AFL atm? 0? 1?
I do agree. Still think our first this year and next will get it done. So much uncertainty with our future first as well. We will lose Lobb, Acres and maybe Logue this year. Would you have us placed to be better or worse next season with them going out?

Think two firsts with maybe something coming back, maybe a second is pretty bang on for someone out of contract maybe a third coming back.

The thing is Jackson isn't exactly a skinny scrawny kid who needs to put weight on & hit the gym as most young AFL players around his age are.
He already has a strongly built body, is fast for his size and can play footy, but how good is still the big question. Will he really improve heaps ??
I'm one who things Freo may find that putting all their eggs in one basket for this guy may be a big mistake.
We have Meeks who is way better in the ruck and appears to be improving exponentially each year and is projecting to become a top-line player in my opinion. I hope we don't lose him.
More importantly for Freo, is looking to find forward key position players ,especially with Lobb going who I wish we could convince to stay on because he has finally found the form that makes him a really dangerous forward and he seems to gel perfectly with our players and our style of play. Would love to offer him a 4 year deal.

In my opinion, Acres is decent, Logue is average, Lobb is a very good player. I don't think much changes for frem. next years first will still be 15-18

Of course Jackson will improve. a) he's 20 and b) he's performed already on the big stage. He's played 1 game this year as solo ruck. 1 game. How did he go? 21 possessions, 1 goal, 18 hitouts, 6 inside 50's and a whopping 9 tackles. That's what you'd get every week if he played solo ruck. Where you play him alongside Sean Darcy is Fremantle's problem and it doesn't affect the trade value of Jackson. it's not his fault.

Sean Darcy was ahead.
No he wasn’t, as a 20 year old Darcy played 7 games. Averaged 9 disposals, 2 marks, 0.57 contested marks. He averaged more hitouts as he was playing number one ruck while Jackson is number 2. But Jackson as an overall player was miles ahead.

Darcy didn’t get even get a rising star nomination, Jackson won the award.

So Jackson has played 1 game this year as a number 1 ruck? At the same age Darcy was averaging 27 Ho's.

You can't pick and choose. Darcy was ahead at the same age as a ruckman.

Using the rising star nominations as a measuring tool is flawed. Andrew Brayshaw never got a nomination.

His hitout work yes, Not as an overall player though. Jackson is miles ahead.

Answer this question honestly. How many hitouts would Darcy be getting playing behind Max Gawn? Would he even be getting games? You're comparing Sean Darcy, an overweight manchild playing solo ruck with an athletic, 2nd ruck playing behind one of the best ruckman the game has ever seen.

If Darcy was behind Gawn, you can divide his hitouts and possessions by 70%.

So what type of player is he? Is he a ruckman?
Yeah he can be, could also play other roles.

I’ve stated a few games this year that Melbourne win more clearances with Jackson in the ruck than with Gawn despite Gawn winning more hitouts. 2021 Grand Final is a perfect example of how Jackson influences the team winning clearances despite not dominating the hitout part of ruckwork. He might not be the best tap ruckman, but he is very influential ruckman.

Sean Darcy had 40 Hitouts in his debut game as a Ruckman. What did Jackson have in his debut game as a ruckman?

No one is denying the talent that Jackson has but what type of player is he? He isn't going to be played in front of Darcy or Gawn.

Is he a midfielder?

yeah and Darcy had less possessions, less goals, less marks, less tackles, less inside 50's.

Are you reading this thread? I posted his stats already. We've also side many times that he is a ruckman that can probably be used on ball. Read the thread before asking questions that are already answered.
