News Maddy Prespakis and Georgia Gee request trade to Essendon & other possible player movements

Pretty annoyed about Prespakis, but far more frustrated that Gee is leaving. Prespakis is elite around stoppages etc, but I don't think she will have the athletic profile that the game will demand in the next few years. Maybe I am going too early on that one, but the comp will reach a point where the athletic standards for the women will demand much more of many players. I see Gee as one that could have had a very, very long career with us.

If the AFL says Essendon must give up a high draft pick for Prespakis, that is what will happen.

There's nothing stopping the AFL from doing that, given they've deliberately waited to set the rules for what clubs can lose this time around.

I would have thought compensation pick(s) were a no-brainer, but given that they haven't done that in the past I can't see them doing it this time around. How would you feel if you were one of the earlier clubs who lost good players to expansion and didn't get compensated, only to see the blues get compensated a few years later?

Let's face it, the only pick that makes sense based on the stature of MP is the first pick in the draft, and they ain't doin' that.

in the EFC press release, it says Gee & Prepakis have "committed" to signing, but not actually signed
also "The club will now work with Prespakis and Gee along with the AFL and their management to facilitate the request at the appropriate time, noting the AFLW Sign and Trade Period is yet to be confirmed by the AFL."

Unfortunately, the Conti deal came after the Dogs had already lost 4 players. So the pick was an AFLW engineered thing to get the deal done.

MP decided to be first cab off the rank (seems she couldn't wait to join the 'stains, and rub our noses in it via insta). So unless we lose someone of Conti's stature - which I sincerely hope we don't - there won't be the same consideration for us.

To reiterate: the AFL haven't declared the quotas for this expansion period yet, which means it's even easier to engineer a Prespakis trade if they want to.

counter offer is correct, but foundation clubs weren't given compensation picks, never have
only expansion clubs were given this, depending on their list builds pre draft

the only way foundation clubs were compensated was to exceed their quota of players lost (4 players for Vic clubs)
then any other player lost would have to be traded for with draft picks

Tigers got Brennan as free agent, but had to trade pick No 1 for Conti (Dogs lost 4 players by that time)

i'm not advocating losing another 3 players to get a fair compensation result for Prespakis, but that seems to be the landscape
given she has left so early doesn't seem the druggies want to pay fair compensation at all

the decent & right thing that Prespakis should at least do is, as a requirement of her leaving, the druggies hand over their top pick
that way Carlton is fairly compensated for time & money spent on her development

maybe the rules will change this last expansion, but it's the AFL and i wouldn't put my money on it

what the Blues should do is attack Melbourne's list and try to get a Hanks, Zander and Bannan to come over
pay decent $'s for 2 of these players and replace Prespakis & Gee,

We didn't want to blow our cap on Prespakis so we won't blow it on another club's stars, plus it would cost us too much in draft picks.

Woman's footy is so highly over rated/over paid it is unbelievable. Standard IS ATROCIOUS. Very hard to watch if you love football as I do.

Gill has made it his thing and biggest blue he has made in his tenure IMO.

Should be like USA where College (VFL/SANFL/WAFL here ) and High school football (TAC here) are huge and get massive live crowds and TV audiences.

BECAUSE it is a GOOD PRODUCT and people want to see the second and third best standard of football .
Also the young guns/draft prospects coming through.

Thats what we should have done with TAC and VFL ( should be truly National and a genuine AFL reserves comp)

But after all the millions spent on AFLW there is nothing left for these comps.

A VFL/SANFL/ WAFL player earns a pittance compared to the top woman. SO WRONG !!!

Dont get me wrong there is a place for woman's football and I whole heartedly encourage all girls to play the greatest game in the world.

It just does not deserve to be the No. 2 product on the AFL menu.

Maddie is gonna get $150g for a very short season and good luck to her.

That is more per game than a lot of AFL players !!!!!
