Malthouse V Buckley

What a terrible week for Collingwood and its coachs. First of all they get completley out coached on Friday night. Everything was in there favour and still were made to look second rate.

Then Mick comes out and lies about abusing a player from StKilda. Then his Captain and President lie to protect him and they all look stupid. Waht more do they want to beat a side umpires favourtism and injuries to Saints stars not enough?

Then they go watch there reserves and they get belted with there big forward line hopes getting smashed. Rusling the next Coleman Medalist having 7 goals kicked on him at full back.

Monday night the AFL fines Mick and Licca for the shambles they created.

To top it off Leigh Brown wasnt cited for his gutless behind the play bump on Riewoldt which means hes free to play this week.

Great week Pies keep it up:thumbsu::thumbsu:

That's a hell of a stutter you have there

Nice work by Malthouse to kick the boots into Buckley again Saturday night. Malthouse had no issue in telling everyone who wanted to hear that the Buckley coached forward line was terrible. Malthouse mays well have said we lost because Buckley cant coach. He really is having massive issues with the whole Buckley thing and he cant help but show the world the division at Collingwood. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

This is unusual. When was the last time somebody publicly criticised a coach in this manner?

One Week At A Time showed vision of Malthouse calling the forward group together at 3/4 time to give them a spray. Probably an unusual move?

The look on Buckley's face ... priceless.

Selecting a top heavy forward line and then having mids bomb it in with up-and-unders was just as damaging as our forwards having an off day. Going in without a crumber didn't help things either. Lost at the selection table, blamed on an assistant.

Poor form from Mick. When players play for themselves things start to fall apart... what about when coaches do it?

Whats this guys deal?

You no nothing about the situation. He is the head coach for the next season and a half and he can do what he wants, im sure if your forward line was struggling to form any pressure what so ever, your coach would give the forwards a bake wouldn't he? Guess Bomber has never done that ;)

Malthouse has every right to do that as he is THE HEAD COACH
Get a clue mate and stop bringing this thread up whenever malthouse does something wrong, seriously do you have anything better to do with your life? its pathetic.

So you don't think it's unusual, what Malthouse did? I don't remember ever a coach publicly criticising an assistant coach in this manner after a game. You do have to take in account the unusual circumstances, but then this is the crux of the issue, is it not?

I believe that mick malthouse, along with rodney eade, are the most overrated coaches in the league. The have been coaching collectively for about 45 years for 2 premierships. I bet some other coaches that only lasted a few years wouldn't have minded that sort of blinding faith by their clubs.

He didn't criticise the coach, he criticised the forwards

Have you never heard a coach criticise a forward line (or backs or mids or rucks) in such a manner? Of course you would have. But the difference is you couldn't name the coach responsible for each line at 15 other clubs...

We've lost to the two best sides from last year and the one of the toughest road trip sides in the competition - who made top six last year. Its hardly the end of the world.

Obviously with three of our best small forwards temporarily out of action (Medhurst Davis and Dick) we've lost a little flexibility and decided to stretch Brisbanes defence by going a bit taller. It didnt work - one side effect of a taller forward line is reduced forward pressure at ground level - and this week its back to the drawing board. Clearly theres no room for both Anthony and Dawes in Collingwood's forward line. While Davis hasnt been in great form due to injury, at least he had a high tackle count.

We sit 7-3 and we'd have taken that at the start of the year. And it needs to be noted we are yet to play Adelaide, Richmond or the Eagles - which the other top four sides have already had the benefit of playing. Freo's played them all.

.

Welcome back to the main board Timmy :thumbsu:

Saying you lost to the 2 best sides from last year is.....soooooo last year ;)

Saying we kicked 6 goals against 2009's second best side is as irrelevant as saying we kicked 17 goals against 2008's best side. Its SOOO last year........

Touche - although quoting a throwaway quip as if was gospel is a bit passe.

Lets just say we have lost to three of this years top sides including easily the best side, teh best shut-down side, and the second toughest road trip (we won the toughest). None of those games would be pencilled in as anything near certain wins.

No need for panic stations just yet but of course that wont stop the critics taking a swing. Big game this week against the Dogs because they are under the pump even more than us and will be out for revenge after losing in Round 1 - another game we were supposed to lose.

Agreed, no panic stations required at 7-3

Doesn't anyone else agree with me that malthouse and eade are overrated?? I am just new to this writing into forums and dont know if I had to start a new thread to ask that question. just seen malthouse v buckley and thought i would put my thoughts forward:cool:

He never mentioned Buckley at all, he mentioned the forwards, and so he ought to have. The pressure they put on the opposing defenders was abysmal. He also said the midfield need to get first use of the ball a lot more, should that be interpreted as a public criticism of Mark Neeld? In fact, if any coach criticises the performance of a single line, does it follow therefore, that they are directly insulting the line coach?

Yes we realise he hasn't won us a flag yet, thats why his senior coaching tenure expires in 2 years. Judge him after that

I'd argue it's less difficult to adjust to a new coach when
a) you know it's coming and
b) he's already an assistant at the club
c) he's by far the greatest coach in waiting in the league and the best/smartest/diligent midfielder of the last 50 years

So he is great at what?

Are you saying he is the best person waiting to coach, because thats what he is doing. There is no such thing as best in waiting.

As for being the best mid in the last 50 years plenty have been better much better, for one Greg Williams.

Bucks at his best would not have been top 5 in the comp.
