Malthouse V Buckley

He was a priority pick as you traded pick 3 for pick 5 and Mckee to Richmond.

Or did you mean that Roach wasnt a priority as he was a donkey?

The only priority picks in the 1999 AFL Draft were Collingwood at #1 (Josh Fraser) and Fremantle at #2 (Paul Haselby).

But yes, Roach was a dud, and I don't think you'd find a Collingwood supporter that would argue to the contrary.

Looks like Mick is letting Bucks coach in rnd 2 of the NAB cup (or challenge if we lose to the Saints)...

Strange decision from a man who is so insecure about Buckley taking his job...

He did the same thing last year with his assistants, big deal only a few teams take the NAB Cup seriously anyway. Although have read and heard that Collingwood have been hellbent on winning it over the last few years and this year even more so. Im sure Ross Lyon will be sitting there with a smile on his face as the Pies are busting there guts in top gear while hes got his team held back in second.

I thank you for your concern but I didnt realise I was re sitting my HSC English exam. So go brush your tooth and get to bed.
HSC eh! I'd assumed wading through your drivel we were dealing with a small child, my mistake, and you have my sympathy.

ps It's called the VCE these days, you're showing your age old boy.

So 1+1=3?

That's not how the priority pick system works.
It will be interesting to see how MM goes with an actual ruckman at his disposal.

How conveniant Timmy you left off Danny Roach who was a priority pick in the Fraser draft. Used pick 5 for him and he played one game. Throw in Richie Cole and Chris Egan both very early picks and the Malthouse recruiting failure grows legs. I wont mention Bo Nixon, Luke Shakleton or Billy Morrison as no one would beleive Malthouse used first round picks for them.

I didnt mention them because I was talking about our current list. You've only added two extra names of top ten picks in the past ten years.

Roach was clearly a mistake although I'm not sure if Malthouse was even at the club back then. Cole was not a top ten pick and he was nevertheless traded for pick 20-odd, so it wasnt a total loss as we got something for him.
Egan didnt work out. All teams have errors

Re the other draft picks, they were hardly the high picks that Malthouse was accused of having at his convenience.

For example in the year we picked up Morrison, B Shaw, Hall, H Shaw and J Rowe, Geelong picked up Tenance (with a top ten pick), Thurley, Blake, Spencer, Koulouritis in the draft as well as trading in Loats and Haynes (for whom you gave up pick 20), and promoting Slade from the rookie list. With hindsight we did better in the dud year of 2003 than Geelong because we didnt draft deeply in a weak draft. The name Billy Morrison gets used as a scapegoat a bit. There were plenty of players in 2003 who didnt make the grade.

Geelong obviously has won two flags, so it just goes to show one bad year of drafting doesnt kill you.

Bucks & Mick

In light of the recent 'Late Night' wars, between Conan and Jay Leno, it occured to me that their deals were similar to the one between Nathan Buckley and Mick Malthouse.

What if Collingwood win the 2011 premiership, and they are absolutely flying, then Bucks comes in, and they miss out on the finals. Is there any legal wrangling that would let Mick back in the coaches box, ala Jay Leno is back hosting the 'Tonight Show'.

Re: Bucks & Mick

The Kirribilli Agreement is going to create friction (even if it's just unfounded media speculation), whether the Pies are winning or losing games.
Scratching your arse creates friction.

It's a done deal though Zeke.

MM isn't insecure about losing his job, he's resigned to losing his job. It won't matter a jot if he wins the 2010 and 2011 flags back to back, he's been boned already.

"Boned" is an interesting choice of word there BBG.

If I had a guaranteed 5yr deal on pretty good $$$$ I would like to be "boned" too!! :D

Actually 1991 to be exact. Back when you used to front up to your coach at training and explain why you couldnt train. Then it changed and you could get away with a phone call which isnt that bad. Now I get texts with letters missing that are aparently SMs slang, upside down happy faces and all sorts of other symbols on them from players. So yes the typing and grammer is poor at best but like I said before this aint no grammer rodeo.

Is this an excerpt from your upcoming book "Why doesn't anyone ever turn up to my sessions?"

If that's the case (which, it's not) then he agreed to his own boning.

Why would he agree to a deal if he didn't want it?
