Yeah the Crows were also "lucky" enough to beat the Port both times this season. I think even Carlton would have done better in the Grand final then Port... and they wouldn't even have been trying! :D

Pity you weren't lucky enough to win 16 H&A games and 2 finals then - you could have shown us how it was done!

No matter how you look at it, this has tainted the Port Adelaide image that they have constantly portrayed. Prior to their next Grand Final, there is no way they will be talking about their history of premierships and the culture of success at the club. I mean, that was the weakest effort I have seen in a long time, and considering what respect I had for Port's history - it was an effort I could never have expected.

Get a clue mate..

In the 60's Pot Adelaide used to get smashed all the time in Grand Finals but they also won a fair few.. everyone has there day.

The current squad we have will be up there for the next 5 years easily and i'm sure yesterdays game was only a lesson.

Losing a grand final is much more painful than losing another final.

I was so hoping you were a Carlton fan when I read that... had such a clever line for it ;).

It would hurt to lose that way, I wouldn't know, my team have been pretty competitive in the last couple. The good thing about losing that way is you have the whole second half to get over it and get on the piss. Nothing hurt more than losing by a point because you invest so much in the game and then it all gets wrenched away in a second. Yesterday your tips and all that went out the window about 2 minutes into the 3rd and it just became a piss up with a game of footy in the back ground.

what a weak pathetic wimps way out!

You should ALWAYS try to get to the top, not give up because you are too scared of failure.

I bet you only go to games that you're sure your team will win!

for an "Angry Dragon" you're not very scary....maybe you should change your name to "Puff the Magic Dragon", or how about "Dorothy the Dinosaur"

Who wouldn't like a little of what Puff has to offer ;)

I have seen my fair share of Collingwood GF losses, so I am not speaking in theory here!! I would much prefer to see us make the GF. They are so hard to come by, that win lose or draw I still want to see the boys run out on the last day in September.

Losing is losing, I would much prefer to lose the big won than not make it all together. And I would definitely prefer to lose any kind of final than not make them at all.

I remember when Carlton supporters had passion and spirit. Now finishing last and bottoming out for 5 years seems to be the preferred option, rather than losing a GF.

Hard to be jealous of a team that lost by over 100 points in the biggest game of the year in front of 2-3 million people.

Yeah, but it also shows how much work needs to be done doesn't it? Most people here have said here that they would rather lose by 1 point like Sydney/Weagles have done in the past than get blown away like we did on Saturday afternoon. I would've preferred to win or at least have been competitive but by being so comprehensively beaten it has shown where Port need to improve not only individually but collectively as a team. Now on the other hand just say Port would've got done by say anywhere between 1-30 points then we would all be thinking, hey we're pretty good if we can just a bit more improvement here & there, maybe pick up another experienced afl player in the draft & we should win the flag next year.

I do wonder though. Having been on the end of a couple of spankings in finals, I'm not convinced that it's more painful than a 5 point loss.
It's not the pain of losing that I am referring to. A five point loss in the prelim (after a trip to subiaco the week before + overtime) against the premiers who beat the runner-up by 119 points in the GF at least gives me the feeling that we are very much thereabouts.

I felt horrible and heartbroken after the 2003 GF loss, whereas after the 2002 GF loss, I was very proud of the way the team played and was content in knowing that we were only 9 pts away from a premiership.

Close losses are more painful, but you can take a lot more out of them then 119 pt drubbings. This is why I don't believe Port are the envy of Collingwood.

PA supporters are deluding themselves.

You WILL remember this forever regardless of what happens in 2008 or for that matter in 2009.

We won in 99, but 98 is still the one that hurts, so does 78, and 76 and 74.

M I S S E D O P P O R T U N I T Y.

I don't think any Port supporters are deluding themselves.
We are shattered by Saturday's result and in no way are proud or accept what happened to our club. FWIW, I agree with one or two posts suggesting that this result will have deep reaching effects on some of the players involved.
Any anticipation of future GFs will be one of "let's hope we put up a respectable showing" rather than "let's win this thing" until we win one or two.

We have no choice but to stay positive though and focus on a pretty good effort over 24 other matches this year. I don't think any other club's supporters would or could do differently.

That's ridiculous, I wouldnt want Collingwood in a grand final to be revealed as total pretenders and frauds, rather a five point fighting loss by a REAL side in a prelim final to the eventual premiers.

Mark Williams after the heavy loss yesterday tried to put a positive spin today '' We we're the envy of 14 clubs by making the GF '' Whatever mate.

To be honest i would rather make a grand final than not so i envy Port that.

But it would be very hard to accept & make excuses after a performance like the the PAP just put up.

Jeez !! a 119 point loss plus a record losing margin.

ouch, in fact double ouch.

Showed a lot of class and dignity. The TV cameras didn't relay (mainly because TV directors are morons) but I got the impression Cam Mooney also consoled every Port player before getting amongst his team mates.

we only saw mooney give wakelin a hug. nice sportsmanship there.

personally id love to make a GF! havent seen one since 1980.

in hindsight a thrashing looks bad but every supporter would want the chance to play off for the grand prize.

Im happy I went their, yes it was embarassing but hey thats Sports, gotta take the good and bad days.

Walking to the ground was amazing, the feeling is unreal.

I have to say Ive only skimmed through this thread but the responses of the Port fans were really good. Its a shame that Lou73 has nothing better to do with his/her time than to bag the runners up in the competition. I guess that when your team has no chance of making finals and is going no where its easy to kick other people while theyre down. But remember Lou73 Port might have been down on Saturday but believe me that was only temporary compared to the lows your club has been experiencing.

Ummmm, the whole thread is punctuated with excuses and justifications that we got there ahead of everyone else and did better than expected blah blah blah, you got smashed in front of millions.

Gaso

I think the overwhelming feeling within us port supporters is one of pride for seeing them get as far as they did - not even the most optimistic of us thought we would. (yes the season opened up nicely for us but we still had to win the games). However we all acknowledge our efforts upon making it were very substandard.

Sp pride of exceeding expectations to get there but severe dissapoitnment for what took place on the day.

Oh okay...stupid me!

So when PA fans came trolling on our Kangaroos board last week gloating about belting us, it was okay for us to turn back to the trolls with the above justifcation? And didn't they greet that with such intellect as well!

You guys are hypocrites.

You have to be there to win it mate, always prefer to be in a GF than not, even if it means getting smashed.

Were you happier with the year in 02 or 07? I know I was much happier with our year in 02 but with this year im just happy about our future.

Well done to Port on getting there and all the other 14 teams(inc mine) should all STFU, the only people that can hang shit on Port are Geelong.
