Your perceived Blackmores conflict is no more.

well spotted. So the question now is whether she leaves the board because she doesnt have the time for the collingwood position....ORRRRR

she realises where her bread is being buttered and sticks around the club after getting assurances from Eddie that he wants her to stay and no, she only has to attend the monthly board meetings and leave the rest to him.

I'm going with option 2

I'm sure we receive mail though.

Actually it does give Holgate a chance to do something constructive in her business life, rather than selling pills to people who dont need them.

And before I get any brickbats, I acknowledge that I havent done anything constructive in my business life. In fact, it's from my lowly position that I can recognise a fellow human being who wants to network with the right people and get to the top, so kudos for her ambition and her recognition that when she got to australia , she could AFL to scale the ladder in the "game of mates" that we call australian business.

Could it be that your jaundiced view of the world is what is holding you back?

Ms Holgate's predecessor had no problems with being on Carlton's board, so I think she stays.

evidently, giving really isnt giving unless the whole world knows about. While we're at it, I give about 1% of my income to doctors without borders, which would be about 10 million dollars if i was a billionaire, but I would give 40 times more if they put a plaque about me out the front of the fremantle town hall....

in one of the laughs this week, english billionaire wants to give the homeless man who cared for dying kids in manchester, six months free accommodation and some money.... let me put a quote from the article because it's priceless

They are offering six months' free accommodation and some money to "help him on his way."

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/05/25/bill...-rent-to-homeless-manchester-attack-hero.html

I was wondering what helping him on his way meant. Helping to move out of Manchester? I was also wondering whether the billionaire and his son discussed limiting the accommodation to 6 months because they could only afford 5000 pounds..... or maybe it was because "you know about homeless people, they will just drink the money"...

Australians and social media love to fell tall poppies.

A charitable donation does not require anonymity. When I give to charity I am proud of it.

Why stop criticising the billionaire at 6 months'? Why shouldn't the billionaire kill himself and give all his money to this homeless guy?

Anyone who is giving something which did not exist before is being charitable/generous. Criticising someone for their charity is not contributing to a generous world.

You should be proud of your charity and the awards that you have received for your giving. In fact, I'd love to hear about your awards here. Or maybe provide us with some details of the Trust that you have set up....I'd be interested to hear about it.

Deflection. A sign of weakness of personality.

I dont think anyone is remotely concerned with my personality....so i wouldnt think there's any interest in your appraisal of it.

But you were posting about billionaires using trusts to set up charities and getting awards for their donations. I was merely giving you an opportunity to advertise your charities.

For example, I give about 2% of my income to MSF - doctors without borders, which i think is one of the most deserving charities around. I admire the doctors and associated volunteers. I encourage people to give to this charity. I also give to Oxfam. It's not a big amount. I suppose if i was a billionaire, 2% would be considerable, but I also have to pay tax which billionaires dont have to and I have a lot of standing costs such as electricity, registration, food which are a significant part of my income when you compare it to billionaires - although I suppose it must be expensive to register 30 cars etc.

I have chosen not to establish Trusts in my name in order to give money. I rely on the charities to administer the money properly. Maybe I should take the lead from Alex Waislitz and establish the Markfs Trust. Unfortunately, I havent received any awards yet, although MSF and the other charities do send me a letter of thanks each financial year. I must admit a knighthood would be nice.

You were being disingenuous.

Who cares if a trust is set up for the purposes of avoiding tax if the money saved is given to a charity?

if I could I'd prefer to give the money to the Peter Mac Institute than to any level of government to do one their endless feasibility reports on the earlier feasibility report on the planning of the next feasibility report.

I think you have derailed your own thread. Were you really upset when the wall fell?

Who said that i wanted to rail the thread when I started it? And try to keep it simple. I'm not good at interpreting cryptic comments.

ps are you interested in whether i have a weakness in my personality? i'd be chuffed if you did.

Actually I get a tax credit for claiming MSF on my tax. I'm not sure what happens to people who dont pay income tax. I dont think Australia operates under the same system as the US where you can claim for things years after they happened - such as the trump bankruptcy. We havent reached that level of sophistication yet.

I see your point about the Peter Mac Institute. As I said, anyone in Australia can claim a tax deduction for giving to charities. It doesnt need a trust.

I really am. Who hurt you Marky Mark? You seem so sad.

lol i'm pretty happy and thanks for your concern. I suppose that I do get annoyed that certain people at the big end of town like to use boards of AFL teams to promote themselves. I know it's old world stuff to get annoyed. Call me a traditionalist. I think that I said earlier that I'd be happy if we auctioned off positions on the board and get some money into the coffers.

Do you think that it would be a good idea to sell board positions?

You clearly aren't on the email circulation list. They are constantly being offered. Spread is massive right now so can't see any deals being done in the near future.

Lots of speculation in the chat rooms right now about some boards reducing their director numbers to manipulate the price of a slot. Classic Carlton.

Methods of payment include cash, bringing in a sponsor or promising to hold a really cool party.

well obviously you're successful financially and have good connections. Would you be interested in purchasing a place on the board? How much would you be willing to pay?

Would a company purchase a spot for one of their CEOs? I think that would be a great idea. Real big money! As most of the large companies dont pay tax, they might be willing to purchase a spot on the board. Now I know private ownership of the Pies wouldnt bother you, but I would like to see something drafted up that said that purchasing a spot on the board didnt infer part ownership in the club...

I must admit that it might open up a can of worms. We would have to get a team of lawyers in to draft the paperwork.

I can see that you're joking by the last comment. I'm not sure why as selling board positions seems to be a good idea to me. And i'm not kidding

Nah, you have got me wrong. But if I could find the Club a willing buyer for a board slot, I wouldn't say no to clipping the ticket.

Think you need to move on from your tax angle.

you guys have mistakenly interpreted this thread as a word association thread...

i state that ingenuously or with ingenuous intent

but i am known to have a weakness in my personality so i might be ingenuous and not really know it

but as jesus once allegedly said, let he who is without sin cast the first stone....

You remind me of a Pharisee.
