I agree with this comment, i got the feeling so does JDG from this game.De Goey should be Mid 1st and Forward 2nd
It's a practice match FFS. Top 4 side easily this year. We made top 4 with a horrendous injury list last year.
There was a point early, Cox on a lead, looks promising, Cox drops a simple chesti. it looked quite slick, then all stuffed up from there. The disappointment out of today’s game was at no stage did we look to just open the game up and run and gun the ball either by hand or by foot—-it showed the same problems as last season really.
Slow build up and no key forwards able to take a contested mark or mark on the lead and create space.
DieselIs that right? Pendles was arguably bog among the leagues elite in the bushfire game, had arguably his consistent best over the last two years. He's a unique player in that he doesn't have and never has had leg speed, he's able to bend time to his will - he literally predicts (99% of the time correctly) where and when the ball is going to be.
There is no other player past or present that can equal that ability and may likely never be one to follow. Leg speed is not required and your brain doesn't slow at 32. His footy nous is considered elite. Make no mistake he is still an elite player in the competition.
As far as Sides goes he's 28 - his best footy is certainly not behind him, an elite wingman. At his best he almost snagged a brownlow, the only reason he can't reach his best again is if we continue on this inefficient game plan. Trying to control transition has proven not to work for us, return to what serves us best and make no mistake these two will feature heavily in influence in the comp this year.

Its an odd one, in 2018 we lost most of our talls and had no choice but to go fast. Since then we have seemed to want to slow it down all the time, go with short kicks etc.
Don't get it to be honest. Did not like what I saw today. That is not the game plan to dismantle Richmond, they would destroy that short kicking game.
Better than running full pace and pinging a hamstring in a tune up game.Grundy ran around at half pace today and looked like he was counting his money !
To be clear, I love them both and Pendles has never looked in better nick but the reality is that both have clocked 300+ games and their impact will start to decline from here. That’s not bagging either of them - they’re both champions - but apart from imports Treloar and Adams (and the disastrous return of Beams) we haven’t drafted or developed a genuine A-grade mid in years.
Ultimately to prolong their careers, I see Sidey moving forward and Pendles moving back but who will replace them in the engine room as game-breaking leaders? Hopefully one or two will emerge this season - but I doubt it’s any of Phillips, Wills or the Brown boys.

We saw the fast ball movement in the Richmond game. Reckon that's what we're aspiring for. It's something that's hard to execute with the midfield we were running with in the 2nd half.
There is no time and place for positivity around here, how dare you bring that attitudeAt the risk of introducing a positive tone, I think Noble is going to become a long term regular. Love what he offers.
I’d play De Goey there for centre bounces and keep him largely forward the rest of the time
A haircut would make Wills less conspicuous in general play.Wills tries hard but he just isn't good enough, his ball use is terrible and slow
