Masten Under the Microscope

Thats why i want yeo to be given at leats another season or half a season in the guts. Has the potential to be a game breaker. Hopefully mitchell in the next few years helps with the development of our young mids.
Yeo's a difficult one, I'd like to see us go shorter in the backline to generate more run and play him as the 3rd tall

Yeh, point I was making is we have plenty of guys who can play there, we've got to stop using the hbf as a spot to shove our midfielders that don't seem to work out and actually develop them as midfielders. Even Wellingham didn't get much of a run in the middle before he was shunted off back there, got a few games on the wing and the hff and then it was like, oh well he's not working as a mid, see how he does down back.
Agree need to persist with Dugg and play him in the guts with Shuey and Especially Mitchell while he is playing he is a smart kid and will learn off these guys.

I'd say it isn't too much of a concern yet.

Duggan averaged 11.8 and 12.5 disposals in his first 2 years whilst Ben Cousins for example averaged 13.8 and 14.6 so not he's not too far off.

However if he struggles again this year then it would probably be time for concern I reckon.
What is the sample size of games like?

Not being a smart arse. Juat curious and cbf trawling a stats site on the mobile

People have duggans average disposal count above but what do you think is enough to consider as a pass mark.

Imo if he plays his usual role and can average 18 touches that would be a pass mark for him but I would also like to see him kick 15 goals and provide more than 4 inside 50s a game.

I want him given plenty of on-ball time but I'm not convinced Simpson will give him enough.

Anyone wanting to know why I hate Marsden, watch Hutchings press conference. I understand that guys are different and people are characters etc and thats not what I take out of the presser but I could unequivocally guarantee that Marsdo has never tried to get better at anything in the offseason other skin folds, muscle mass and endurance. The way Hutchings talks about trying to get better, keep his spot and always going 100%. He is a definite starter over Marsdern IMO and to have otherwise is outrageously ludicrous and raises severe questions about your knowledge and understanding of the Australian Football outdoor sports game.

Ridiculous statement, everyone knows that Masten has worked extremely hard on his squealing like teenage girl at a Justin Beiber concert over the last few off-seasons and I'd feel pretty safe in saying that he's now in the top echelon in this skill. And don't get me started on his after goals that he wasn't involved in celebrations, absolutely sublime. You can't tell me that hasn't taken some serious dedication to master

I guess if you're in the celebration of a crucial goal, you're likely to be on the cover of the paper. If you're on the cover of the paper you must have played well. The selectors are probably old codgers that read the paper who have short term memory loss from concussions/being generally old and se your hands up high and tongue out and think you did something good and select you again. It's like a ponzi scheme. Luke Shuey the ****ing Shue aint Illuminati it's Marsdon

I too would like to see Duggan become a goal kicker, but at this point I'll settle for more goals than points in a season.

Shep took a while to make it and i think the fact Duggan had a good first year it can be frustrating to see a player not back it up the following year.

Our drafting hasn't been THAT bad over the last few years.

Sheed: Really stepped it up in his second year but his third year was wiped out with injury. Looks primed for a good 2017.

Barrass: What a find this guy has been and is looking good to back it up again.

Nelson: Started 2015 with promise but i feel he was in and out of the side to much last year it really stuffed his groove. Let him develop him as that tough HBF and then MAYBE try him as a mid in a few years time. Could be a handy Butler replacement.

Duggan: Had a pretty good 2015 then he suffered that knee injury in the back end of that year. He was thrown into the side way to early after having a very interrupted pre-season. Let him start the year in the WAFL.

Lamb: Yeah this could be a bust if he doesn't pull his finger out! From all reports has had a better pre-season and the fact no one wanted him in a trade might see him produce this year.

Cole: Had a pretty good 2016 in the WAFL and was rewarded with a few games in AFL level where he didn't look out of place.

Partington: Had an ok year in the WAFL but did have some injury issues so he was in and out of the side throughout the year. He was average on the weekend but he is one i want to see play the last two pre-season games to play around the likes of Shuey, Gaff, Priddis and Mitchell. He could be that player that replaces Masten if all goes to plan.

Karpany: Had a very poor 2014, 2015 & Start to the 2016 wasn't flash either. But credit to him he really upped his work rate late in the year and got a call up to the AFL squad where he had an OK game. He is a victim of being played out of position so it was refreshing to see him being played as an actual mid in the later of half of last year and not pigeonholed as a small forward.

Mutimer: Haven't really followed him to much last but if i recall he had hamstring problems so he was in and out of the side. He looked decent in the pre-season game over the weekend.

Snadden: Ditto but didnt think he played that well.

2016 draftees: To early to tell.

One problem last year was having Graham as a senior coach because he didn't come across as a good motivator which can really have problems for younger players. Webster is well respected by the EP players so it should help develop our players a lot more.

I don't think the future is as doom and gloom as some people are predicting after one pre-seaon game....We have talent to replace the mighty Chris Masten!

Why can't he come in and take MArsdos midfield minutes? We'd get some hardness and a different style of player regularly in the team. Something that we have been missing.
