Mathew Lloyd - Terrified

He held us afloat in 97/98. We were pretty ordinary then.
true but nowhere near the bottom.
think about it, in 98 u played finals and hird missed 10 games.
in 1997 hird the poor bloke missed 15 games, lloyd hasnt done much since his last coleman.
i was hoping to see courtney johns succeed him.
next season johns may be the next lloyd?:D

14th is near the bottom. 98, He (and to a lesser extent) Fletch held us together. We were rubbish, managed 1 final which was a shambles.

If he can't be the next Brereton as touted, I'd be more than happy if he was the next Lloyd.

Vandenberg threw one punch at a guy on the ground in a 2 on 1 situation...thats pretty much the definition of tough isn't it Dawks?

Says a lot about the heroics of Crawford and West who have brilliantly lead struggling clubs.

Think i follow what u were trying to portray, but you chose the wrong players!

West never captained the dogs, great player......but never the leader!

Crawf he was captain from 99-04, the hawks were around the mark from 99-03, making finals, winning 10+ games in all of those seasons........04 was the first really bad season and Crawf then gave up the role as leader and the club was a rabble for a few years!

U could have mentioned Buckley tho, he became captain at the clubs lowest point, and lead the club back to finals football!! Now the club is firing and miles away from where it was back in the late 90s before Buckley was captain!! That is brilliant leadership;)

Bah, Essendon fans claiming their team isn't serial cheats.

Get the replay of Sundays game out, have a look at the contest where Monfries gets the free for too high from Young.

Foreground: Monfries grabs Young's arm with his left hand, and Young's hand with his right hand, and falls forward.
Background: Matthew Lloyd 'extends the dukes' into Croads back, pushing him I'd say 2 metres out of the contest.

Essendon's forward line teaming together nicely to score a goal. Marvellous stuff.

Essendon aren't cheats. hahahahahahahahaha.:D

And where exactly was Young's arm when Monfries grabbed his hand? Oh thats right, it was over Monfries shoulder wasn't it you tool - hence the free kick for "over the shoulder". Perhaps you should try a slower sport.

No, I think you should try watching the replay, in slow motion if you have to.

Young's arm does not go high on Monfries until after Monfries has grabbed it. It looks like half an aikido move, Monfries doesn't finish with the throw is all. Monfries crouches slightly, grabs Young and 'earns' a free kick. He did it quite blatantly, I'm amazed the umpire didn't pay the hold.

Seriously, watch it again. Note too when you do Matthew in the background giving the big old shove. I'm actually more amazed that the umpire was watching Monfries/Young in that marking contest, and not Lloyd/Croad where the real contest for that mark was happening.

Essendon, well schooled in cheating for free kicks, and cheating without giving free kicks away.:rolleyes:

The umpires aren't falling for as many as they used to though.

Is a legend of the game thus the 16 pages thus far on him.

Next year will see a lot better year after such a serious injury.

Apparently off the field he is a terrific leader who accepts nothing less than professionalism and team values.

On field he has also been great, not so much last week but he will learn all the time.

How many current players have kicked 100 goals twice and a 90 as well. Shows that he is a gun.

Every other side would take Lloyd straight away don't worry about that.

Agreed that he dives too much and plays too much for frees and as a result is out of the contest then.

He is in no way terrifed.

Is a gentleman and ornament to the game, great role model, great club person and not big headed at all.

So one bad game and everyone is on his back with the Hawthorn people on here leading the charge because they have no once else to feel a rivalry with.

If you don't see the best this year you will see it next. His injury to some would be career ending. How many come back from a knee reco and are at their best the first year back. Not many. Look at Nathan Brown who is just starting to play well now.

Go Lloydy

Lloyd = Soft as butter. How any Essendon supporters truly believe this bloke sets a good example for younger players needing guidance is beyond me.

Lloyd is the AFL's version of Pavlov's Dog. He hears the umpires whistle, then turns his open drooling mouth towards the umpire expecting a free kick every time.

One can only hope the incoming coaching staff feels the same way.

Years and years of Hawthorn-inflicted demolitions will be the result for the once proud and tough Bombers - now arguably the softest side in the comp with the softest captain in football history.

That's not true !

Well, perhaps it is..............but did you at least consider Bruce Monteath ? or Wayne Campbell ? or Jeff Hogg ? or Mark Bairstow ? ;)

couldnt ask for a better captain to lead a team of softcoks that only show courage when they are the 3rd man in.

Don't forget when he fronts up to anyone smaller then him, or when he runs through players that aren't actually watching nor aware. They're always smaller too.

He's a dirty soft mouse-faced rat.
