I'm more interested in the metres gained for Crouch, this has to be what he needs to work on. It's one thing to get the ball but he's dependent on his team mates hurting the opposition from his possessions rather than hurting the opposition directly.2nd most touches in the comp so far.
His ball use has improved markedly. Will be a beast as he gets stronger and fitter.
Fair call. Anyone have those stats?I'm more interested in the metres gained for Crouch, this has to be what he needs to work on. It's one thing to get the ball but he's dependent on his team mates hurting the opposition from his possessions rather than hurting the opposition directly.
I love him as a player but he's in the same mould as Mitchell and Rockcliff so his touches don't amount to much when guys like Sloane are being tagged out of the game

228 metres gained against Carlton and averages 369 for the year.Fair call. Anyone have those stats?
Haha, no doubt the Wabbit will say the system's flawed...228 metres gained against Carlton and averages 369 for the year.
For comparison sake, Cripps also had 29 touches and had 191 metres gained and averages 256 for the year. Rocky averages 370 and Mitchell averages 319.
He's listed as 3rd on the SEN site. Tom Mitchell is 1st and JPK is 2nd.Isnt he like second or third in the Herald Sun player of the year votes?

It's time some people gave MCrouch the credit he deserves instead of trying to pick his faults and highlight every mistake he makes, he ain't perfect and may not be as "sexy" as some of the topliners but he's bloody good at what he does and was well worth what we paid, in fact he has been a steal at Pick 23.
Worked out so well for both clubs IMO, which is rare.Agree with you 100% Bicks.
I loved Vince but I am so glad we traded him to get Crouch.
He was heavily criticised in pre season games and one game early in the season when a few kicks on his right foot didn't come off. At least he was taking them on and trying to make those kicks. Especially in meaningless games like the pre-season. Look at the trouble similar left footers like Zac Merrett and co get in to when they are forced on to their right foot. It will be a great asset for him to have.I was disappointed in his game for 3 quarters on Saturday, but his last quarter along with Greenwood and JJ probably won the game for us. He has really improved his lowering of the eyes and hitting up targets this season. I also like the fact that he's happy to use his right foot effectively when he needs to which is rare for a left footer.
this is only an excerpt from a larger piece, was going to post it in the political thread but this feels appropriate:
(sorry its gigantic)

I think this has been the only real comparison.Don't know if anyone has made mention, but I think MCrouch is a player in a similar mould as M Priddis. Both are possession and clearance winning beasts. Both are the no-nonsense types that are highly reliable for doing whatever it is they're doing.
I like we're you're going with this, but should be an additional stat.Metres gained is a flawed stat.
Of course the extractor is going to get less metres gained.
What the stat should be is metres contributed. Then the handball he gets 1m backwards which then goes 100m forward for a goal, he would be credited the 99m not the -1m
I like we're you're going with this, but should be an additional stat.
they already count scoring chain involvements so you'd only have to add up the metres gained for each possessions in a chain.
I think this has been the only real comparison.
Didn't think it was his best game in the weekend. His handballing was poor, which is normally strong.
that's why nobody compares players on metres gained alone, or any stat for that matter.Yeh fair point. Metres gained on its own is great for comparing the half back players, and outside mids.
But to compare players across positions its useless. For example I'd say Crouch has had a much better year than Smith, but on metres gained alone Smith is obviously miles in front.
