Pretty shattering - haven't felt this low since our EF loss haha.

I know he isn't the most talented guy going around but he bring a huge amount of heart and determination to do well in a Richmond jumper. I honestly think this will bite us in the backside badly long run but I can't blame White for leaving for better opportunities elsewhere. We really need to look at bringing in some genuine pace into the side because we will get cut up badly by faster teams.

Bringing in Adams would go a long way to easing the pain :D

P.S at least he got to 100 games with us - means we can pick up future White Lightning's/Mighty Whitey's in future :thumbsu:

Correct. Chapman did more against you guys in that final than White has dreamed of in 8 years.
Final against us? we didnt play you in the finals? Yep Chapman will have times when you think his finally made it only to let you down, inconsistent and a heart the size of a pea! The reason no one was sad to see him go! As you can see he wasnt missed this season.
What I was more getting at is both players fill a need for the clubs they go to chapman for you and White for us by the looks while also filling the players needs. Wouldve been a win win trade in my books if thats how it had went, which is why i said i would do that trade.

Just dawned on me the strange times we are now living in.
Re-wind say 3 years...
If someone had said to you that at the end of 2013 we would have:
- Matty White asking to be traded out and many of us are pretty sad...
- Jacko is wearing the JAck Dyer B&F medal around his neck today...
- Cotch, Lids & Jack not in the top 3 of our B&F

WTF! What has happened to the club we used to know???? ;) :p
3 years ago? Last year more like it :p

Very sad to see him go but he deserves his promotion, hope he does very well there.

Good to see Mcguane wants to stay. He is our only other unrestricted free agent.

What's going on here?

Paul Chapman, who there is a few whispers we are looking at.

For me Yarran is a HUGE NO. I understand the logic of needing pace that's fair enough but I reckon he is just plain ordinary and soft in the head.

I think you're being a bit harsh there, he's not ordinary. Only started playing crap when Mick rocked up there and that's clearly because of Mick. Would flourish here imo.

Apologies i didnt read it correctly or even get the guys name rite that i was talking about! Was obviously thinking Chaplin from him leaving us in FA last year! My bad sorry

Lol everyone loves Whitney but really we should be dirty on him!
What he did this year had all the hallmarks of your classic case of other clubs being seduced into giving him a contract he couldn't refuse.
You could see it miles out.
If the bugger had of just improved steadily his contract situation would have been ok!
He had the season he desperately needed at a great time for him but that was always going to mean it was elsewhere from then on if that makes sense?
Already with the insults. :p

apparantly some choice words exchanged amongst some heated discussions and home truths during his "exit meeting" with Dan Richardson this morning.

Richmond believe that White owed them more when they retained him during his "average years"

White believes that he was being made a "scapegoat" for bad contract management and being offered unders as a result.

i think its best if he does leave, hes prob in our best 26 here and not guaranteed a game. if he goes to port on a 3 year deal they will have to play him.
i wish matty all the best and good luck at his new club. no better feelings here

Fair enough.
I've always thought he was very soft in the head.

If that's true C4 I reckon that's disappointing from us.
It's reality. What do they want him to do.
Whites got to be a realist too and he can't guarantee theat he will have a good season next year and then it's sayonara.
He had to go for his own sake.
Poor from the tigers on this one.

Devastating news that has suddenly surprised our supporter base!
Apparently, at best we'll be compensated with a late pick in R2 of the draft.
I've read it's a shallow draft this season, which basically means the replacement for Matty could turn out to be a genuine dud.

I like Whitey but good luck to him. He'd be off his nut not to take a 3 year deal elsewhere.
In regard to the player we pick, we won't know until the year 2018 if he's gonna make it I would've thought.

Thanks C4

Agree to disagree TD.

I have paid him respect but I think you cutting out isolated quotes in my post meant you missed the message.

White was at our club for 7 years. He was given time to get his game right and improve his skill level. To the guys credit he did that this year and we rewarded that buy offering him a year contract. FFS we already invested 7 years into the guy. I think that entitles the club to be conservative knowing his form of inconsistency in the past six years.

It was essentially, here is a year, keep the form up and we will sign you again. White has chosen, no thanks. I prefer to go to a club who has done nothing for me other then that give me 3 years and some coin. Is that a bad thing ? To me not really as footy is a business but the club owes mat white nothing.

As to your questions about why we kept him for 7 years. he has gone through 2 coaches during that time. White is a fantastic guy and footy person. Dimma imo took over and said "I'll give him a chance but he needs to change x and x". It took Matty a while but he got there. IMO if it was not for that work the coaches put into him, he would not have the offer he has now.

Now he has decided to walk to capitalize on that. Should the club given him 2 years ? Nope but again that's my opinion.

I believe the club deserves a little more respect from you than what you have posted

I think you missed the bit where I said I support the club 100% in whatever decision they make.
And I wont go into how else I respect and support the club;)

I get your message.....the club is bigger than the individual and you think RFC made Matt what he is today and now he is running off to the highest bidder...lets just agree to disagree

Matt will not be the difference between us making it and not....he is a role player and depth....I was hoping he would stay but wish him all the best as he has served the RFC well.
