I have no stats to back this up but have started noticing how often 3yo’s have dominant debut wins then go around odds on or highly fancied next start at 64,70 level and get beat. Archanna an example. Lombardo one from a few weeks ago

I think a large part of this is projecting the horse forward. Horses like Archanna it's a somewhat guess how much she will improve because as is logical horses generally improve with match practice. If you are extremely confident they won't take that step there's value to be had for sure. Obviously some take leaps forward and that can blur numbers for algorithms etc and there's also a larger range of potential outcomes because quite simply those who move the market will have greater variance between their opinions and less "certain" form.
I had a quick look, It's not huge losses but it's worse than PAR for what you would expect backing them all.
