Mayweather just dominated it. Beat Hatton at his own fight. No doubt the best pound for pound boxer in the world

Lost signal at the end of the 6th and came back on at the start of the 9th.

Same thing that happened to me. Shits ya off when you pay decent $$$. Least we saw the result.

I was at the pub and there was nearly a riot when the signal went out FOR THREE ROUNDS!!

Hatton was arrogant thought, Mayweather was definitely the worthy winner

Reminds me of the Mundine - Green Fight

After the bout every man and his dog seems to think that they can fight, either they were angry at the result or got inspired during the fight.

Yep. I won't be going to the pub to watch a fight again. First the Mundine - Green one and today - it seems to attract a degenerate crowd of drunks who all of a sudden look to pick a fight with anyone who looks at them sideways.

Problem is the people pack the joint at 12:30 to get a decent spot, fight doesnt come on till 4 or whenever, so there is a few hours of drinking to get through before the main fight, then everyone becomes an expert at boxing and some idiots look to let off some steam afterwards thinking they can jab like the best of em.

Hatton is super fit and retains a high work rate troughout the fight. But to be a great fighter u either have to have silky skills or one punch KO power. If u have both then u r an ATG. Hatton doesn't have neither.

Not really. Being a great fighter primarily requires intangibles. Earnie Shavers for example, arguably the hardest hitter in history, but he had a terrible chin and little heart. Therefore he is only remembered for fighting Ali and putting Holmes on his arse. Look at someone like Henry Armstrong. He is generally regarded as the second greatest fighter in history. He definately wasn't silky skilled, and definately didn't have great power. He had endless stamina, a workrate second to NONE, a great chin and motivation.

Or if you want to use recent/current fighters, look at Erik Morales. A very good boxer, but his Mexican heritage always draws him into fights. He will be considered an ATG once he retires, but he didn't have great power nor silky skills. Infact, there aren't many fighters who have silky skills that will go down as ATGs (considering how many utilising that style there are). Guys like Mayweather, Roy Jones, Willie Pep, Pernell Whitaker, Benny Leonard, Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson etc. fit the bill, but in reality there aren't all that many.

As for Hatton, he is a very good fighter. I wasn't sure 147 was good for him, as I always felt he was a natural 140lber. However after the fight, I think he will be fine there. Mayweather is just a class above. He is the most dedicated guy in the sport today. Behind the arrogance and showmanship, he is an incredibly hard worker, NEVER out of shape. His skipping routine is something to behold. Infact, I think Mayweather is a class above every fighter in the sport today (as much as I hate to admit it). Though Manny Pacquiao is close.

Hatton will continue to be at the top of the sport, he just got caught with a flush hook that he didn't see (the worst kind), from an incredibly talented fighter. His determination and high-pressure style will keep him going for a while yet.

The intangibles that u mention r desired but many times not required. Wladimir Klitschko has both a questionable chin and heart but that doesn't stop him from easily being the top HW on the planet.Schuvallo had the greatest chin ever yet no one places him among the greats.
How can u have many fighters like
Mayweather,Jones,Whitaker,Leonard,Willie Pep,Ray Robinson etc. when very few r capable of reaching that level of excellence ? Each one of these guys at their peak wasn't just a champion but No1 P4P.
As for Hatton, when u walk straight up to Mayweather with both hands on your hips,it's just a mater of what u r getting caught with-not if. He will have to beat more than the semi retired Kostya and Castillo to live up to the hype that surounds him.

Intangibles are not required, but you said that either silky skills or one-punch KO power is required to be a great fighter. I was pointing out the ATGs who have true silky skills, which isn't a large number, considering the top 100 P4P fighters of all time (a rough number) could be considered ATGs. Thus the number with silky skills is nothing in comparison to those who got there primarily with intangibles (though sometimes they are polished boxers or have big power). Monzon, Sanchez, Chavez, Arguello, Jofre, Ortiz, Pryor, Canzoneri, Charles, Walcott, Fullmer, Greb, Hagler, Griffith, Walker, Basilio, Chocolate, Burley, Gans, Ross, Gavilan, Canto etc. etc.

Many of those guys were polished fighters (such as Jofre and Charles), but they didn't have the silky skills of guys like Jones or Robinson. Look at Hagler, arguably the best middleweight ever, good power - not great, a good boxer though more of a brawler. That's just a list off the top of my head, there are many many more.

As for Hatton, he will never be a really great fighter, I never suggested he would. But he is youngish, and will be around for a while. There isn't really that much hype surrounding him anyway, not sure why you'd suggest there is? People hyped the MATCHUP with Mayweather, as they thought his high-pressure style could trouble Floyd.

Since this is a footy site, here is a silly question :). Didak doesn't have the freakish skills of Daicos or G. Ablett, does this mean he is not a highly skilled player? You seem to only accept the cream of the crop in the silky skilled or power punching category.Fair enough, i won't argue that.I am just a bit more generous in my appraisal of a fighters skill and power.
The reason why i'm suggesting Hatton is overhyped is simply cos of what i am reading on the internet boxing forums.Just go to Eastsideboxing and search the threads leading up to the Mayweather fight and u will see what i mean.
