McLean leaves Demons

Melbourne is the loser. Why would this affect the opposition clubs?

They'll only have garbage to pick up at 11. Their fans know it. Draft is shallow. Carlton get lucky yet again and bend over Melbourne:thumbsdown:

On face value i would say Carlton are a massive winner out of this, not only do we pick up a ready made star, but this star happens to free up Judd to play the role he should be playing, so effectively, we're not just picking up McLean, but we also get a new lease on life for Judd. I am over the moon about it, but to say Melbourne are the lossers is a bit early. Pick number 11 could turn out to be anything. The key for Melbourne is to get 5 or 6 good young players together and develop them as a team. Look at Geelong, within a couple of years of each other they picked up Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Enright, and probably a list of others. They have gone through some tough times and come out a much better team.

Either way, as long as McLean is fit for a few years i'm happy.
Also find it funny because i remember a lot of posts on here from Melbourne people hanging sh1t on us for taking Murphy at pick 1 instead of Mclean, who got the last laugh out of that. muahahaha.

No one losses with this trade, except all the opposition i guess. Melbourne get another first round pick to bolster a growing list of young guns, McLean gets a crack at a top club when he is entering his prime and Carlton get exactly what we need, an in and under to free up judd.

No disrespect to Melbourne, but for the next two years at least you won't be pushing for a premiership and i'm sure he realises that. Carlton were there abouts this year and he has seen an opportunity.

Great effort my Melbourne coach to look at the big picture and if that means moving on a couple of current stars then so be it.

Melbourne will benefit greatly from this in coming season, and i hope for your sake pick 11 turns out to be a star.

I'm just hoping that McLean can get fit, if so, we should be aiming a bit higher come 2010.

Ban!

Not in the mood for Carlton logic this soon after finding out.

Ban!

Didn't someone come on here a while ago and say that McLean wasn't getting on with people within the club.

Anyhow, I'm happy with this trade, don't forget we got 5 years out of him.

Is this a shock to Dees or has he been a bit restless or unwanted throughout the year? I always thought he was a Dee through and through. Would live and die for his club. Like he paid $10k from his own pocket to keep it alive now he is just leaving?

Seems a bit strange to me. I feel a bit sorry for the Melbourne faithful as pick 11, whilst it may give you talent, won't give you that little bit extra that a leader like Brock can give.

Happy to get him but it just feels strange to happen so quickly and swiftly...

Mclean was pick 5 in the draft where Adam Cooney was pick 1 bozo.

Can we ban this guy already?

;)

There is so much more to this than we have been told, there has to be. We are talking about someone who, the majority of us, wanted to be installed as captain before round 1. He is a better player than he was in 2009, and his shit pre season cannot be underplayed.

We've lost a potential captain, who coped his whack and kept his nose clean, donated his own cash to the club, formed relationships with our young recruits, and represented us in the media as much as anyone.

Surely this is about money and trying to cut his pay packet based on the year he had. It better not have anything to do with Burgoyne.

I refuse to accept pick 11 as a worthy trade, at the very least our 4th rounder should become Carltons 3rd rounder...how much pressure is on us to now recruit the right guys and develop them to be better players than the one's we are offloading.

If this turns out like the TJ>Grimes trade i'll eat my hat, but I'm not counting my chickens (no pun intended Chook). I think as long suffering supporters who are keeping the club alive, in due course we deserve an explanation. I tell ya, you have to be strong character to love this club.

Did something happen behind the scenes that made him want to leave? I loved the passion of brock, everytime he talked about Melbourne you could see he loved the place.

I am rapt he is coming to carlton, it just seems strange that all of a sudden he wants to leave and the Dees seem to just say no problems see you later.

though you had high hopes for mclean, i believe this is a very very good move for the dees. some solid kids in this years draft and im confident you will have a team to be reckoned with in the years to come (with the right development..) well done for being so 'attacking' :thumbsu:

Am I dreaming? I cannot ****ing beleive this tbh. At times I wasn't the biggest fan of Mclean but... this is ****ing unreal. I am in total shock. With all the money he's forked out etc... this is a total shock. Ahwell... least we know Connely tells no lies, according to the "drink with connelly thread". So... who we taking with 11?

Cheers for that CASS :thumbsu:

Yeah, hopefully we'll come out of this situation better off in the end mate...

Not really trollig my friend, just read the first 90% of what i've written. Last bit was just something i was having a chuckle about. It was obviously Walker you were bagging us out for picking up, not Murphy. Same thing though, still have walker and now Mclean for pick 11, i like it.

ban me if you really want, don't really give a rats to be honest. i've said what i want to say, so good luck to you all.

Rumour has it he fell out with McDonald around the mid season mark but they patched everything up. Besides that I have no idea. Maybe Brock wasn't a huge fan of tanking - he doesn't seem that sort of bloke.

I think it's strange as well, but then again I couldn't see us getting anything better than 11. I couldn't see North, Richmond, Freo, Port, WC or Hawthorn giving up their top picks - Essendon and Sydney could have interest in McLean but maybe it wasn't worth the mess just to gain a few spots.

So the other option is to try and drag it out and get him to stay, like O'Keefe at Sydney. But if it wasn't going to work maybe the club just said we're not getting totally screwed (ie. PSD draft) we should just go with it.

I'm gutted. Really am.

McLean will be a great get for Carlton, and Pick 11 might be great, but he won't be as good as McLean would have been in 2010, so it probably sets back our development another year or so.

Good news for Shane Valenti though. A lot of pressure on the likes of Jones, Moloney and Sylvia to fire up next year.

Where did you hear this?

I am absolutly astonished by this, only this morning i felt like paying out on some guy that speculated you would trade Brad Miller and Brock Mclean to Sydney for pick 6. I thought he was the heart and soul of Melbourne. My mother's side of the family have always been dee's supporters and i have always thought of your mob as a rather proud club, so i am shocked about this. With Chris Johnson i thought you guys had chucked us some of your leftovers tbh but Brock Mclean?

Can't say i am sad that Carlton got him though, i think he will be a massive upside to the Blues. Melbourne come out of this pretty good too, picks 1,2,11,18 should all be quality if your recruiters aren't idiots, and judging by Grimes and Jurrah they have their heads screwed on straight. I think this will be a win/win

Don't know how to feel to be honest.

Love Brock, always have.

But then again he is surplus to our needs. This year he has been worse than Moloney and Jones who both play his position, plus Grimes should move into the midfield next year and also the introduction of Scully + Trengove.

But yeah, mixed emotions.
