McLean leaves Demons

Rumour has it he fell out with McDonald around the mid season mark but they patched everything up. Besides that I have no idea. Maybe Brock wasn't a huge fan of tanking - he doesn't seem that sort of bloke.

I think it's strange as well, but then again I couldn't see us getting anything better than 11. I couldn't see North, Richmond, Freo, Port, WC or Hawthorn giving up their top picks - Essendon and Sydney could have interest in McLean but maybe it wasn't worth the mess just to gain a few spots.

So the other option is to try and drag it out and get him to stay, like O'Keefe at Sydney. But if it wasn't going to work maybe the club just said we're not getting totally screwed (ie. PSD draft) we should just go with it.

Let's hope it is a WIN-WIN for both clubs. Pick 11 gives the Dees a bit more bargaining power at trade time should they be targeting a big name (burgoyne?) with 4 picks in the first 18.

I would have thought though that Melbourne may have waited till trade week and seen what other clubs would have offered as Brock would have been high on a lot of clubs wish lists. I know he has the family connection with carlton, but Melbourne has to do what's best for it aswell.

Has Valenti been given an assurance that he'll be promoted to the senior list?

I hope so, because we'll need him.
Pretty sure this is his ticket onto the senior list. Previously there was no point retaining him because of our surplus of inside midfielders. Now we've lost arguably our best one, Valenti is required.

Does he actually want to go or is he being pushed? If he wants to go then fair enough. If he doesn't then Melbourne can jam their 2010 membership because I wont be renewing if they want to start this crap. Pick 11 woohoo:eek:, all the talk is that this years draft is thin, very thin, Ricky Nixon said it was the thinnest draft in the past 10 years so is pick 11 really pick 20? We gave up pick 5 for this bloke and put 5 years into him. We have no guarantees that pick 11 will actually be any good and we know how good McLean can be. Im so pissed off but I hope for the clubs ske that McLean has asked to leave otherwise see you later!!

Mclean is worth way more than pick 11 in every other season he played. We are trading him when his currency is at his lowest. Makes me feel sick
He wants to leave, our hand is forced.

Good luck getting a better deal than 11 elsewhere. Top 10 picks just aren't traded, other than exceptional circumstances (McLean is not Judd)

That's a big shock... seriously wondering what might be behind it too!

Can't for the life of me figure out WHY he'd be so stupid as to do it - he's effectively destroyed all the goodwill he's built up around here, that's for sure.

Maybe he was sick of being played out of position in the forward pocket for a coaching staff that didn't want to win? Players aren't as dumb as people think, of course they would know what was going on. What's done is done though, your coaches chose to go down that path and this is the collateral damage.

"Endured another frustrating season, this time an ankle injury curtailing his year after round 14. Despite that setback, the quality midfielder still finished a clear second in the best and fairest" MFC Website (2008)

Now he has gone when he is about to enter his prime

Yep that's the reason he chose to goto Carlton, a team who McLean played against when they were tanking for Kruezer in round 22 2007.

Think before you speak.

How do you come to that conclusion? The draft being described as thin is in relation to picking up decent players late in the draft, the first round should stay relatively on par with previous years. And please people get off the whole 'We wasted pick 5 on Brock" bandwagon. 2003 will go down as one of the most pathetic drafts in history, despite Cooney winning a Brownlow, the only players of worth have been Mclean, Sylvia, Stanton and Sam Fisher. All the others have disappeared from the face of the football world, and we should be stoked with the return we got from these blokes.

Like everyone else I was shocked. The naysayers will scream good riddence, although I can't believe they can truly believe that Mclean was bad for the club. Most of us were willing to accept this year as one hampered by injury and lack of preparation. A solid preseason would have fixed that and I have no doubt he will be a very valuable asset at Carlton next season and will make much more of an impact than Chris Johnson.

Look at the bright side, at least he walked out while we could still get something for him. CJ left like a ****smoke. I'm not quite as angry as I was with Scott T, but with the squad we have assembled, we are set, whereas Carlton has and will continue to have an average defence, which will not win you a flag, as the current Saints and Cats teams can attest to.

I suppose u are content with Richmond's 'path' over the last 10 years??

Was gutted when first read this. I think he was one of our leader but yet seems like we all agreed that was never going to be our captain, yet still a spiritual leader.

This shallow draft talk is BS as there are a some very very classy players going top 20 this year. Pick 11 means we will be assured of getting Carlisle Panos or even Butcher.

Also means we have a bargaining tool for trading in pick 18. If we get bugoyne or lovett with 18 and a gun KPF with 11 i dont think any of us will be threatning to give back our memberships like stated.

Yes this hurts but so did the hawks trades a few years ago.

Wish Brock moderate success and thank him whole hearltedly for everything he has given to our club

Gutted!
Why is it every year we're unable to hold onto one of our prime midfielders - Woey, Scotty T, TJ, and now Brock.
...Gonna be another shit year next season
