I though it was friendly fire from a teammate's boot at the time. Was that not the case?
Priddis's team mate's boot redirected Rockliff's fend so that his elbow made contact with Priddis's face. I am not sure why it even got a mention, it looked exactly like that's what had happened at the time from what I saw. At the game it looked like it was fairly much an accident of circumstance. It was over in a flash but really just looked like one of those things that happen in a game in close contests occasionally. In a kids' game someone ends up with a bloody nose. At AFL level where everything is a bit harder and faster, Priddis ends up with his nose slightly realigned.

That bandage made him look RIDICULOUS.

What a dork.

Report on radio was that our submission bored the Tribunal into submission....

"And here as you can see in slide 57......"

We had another 116 to show them and threatened to do so. "Or we can wrap it up now boys"

And the West Coast perm doesn't? I now imagine all West Australians with them now. jackess included.

Given defending It meant a trip to Melbourne and $ vs a paltry 1k (4 him, not me) rocky must really value his reputation. A captain with principles. I like it.
Possibly seeing a specialist there for his hamstring issues too.
It was more about the principles than the money.

Bloody hell - this should be the number one thing we send to the AFL when seeking greater assistance.

No hope = a huge drop in membership, crowds, sponsors and corporates going forward. It is already apparent.

Also unfortunately another clear reason why Leppa can not continue to coach next year unless we miraculously start to turn things around.

For the first time thoughts are creeping into my mind that our actual existence as a Club could be threatened if we continue on the current trajectory. I am not sure we will survive in our current form of we are down the bottom for another four years.

The things you have mentioned are a concern of course but we must be looking at a different table. It simply reflects people's optimism/pessimism about their footy club. We are super pessimistic because we are currently crap on the field. The supporters of other clubs are less pessimistic. Some are delusional. That's it.

I take your point and they will no doubt weigh on the minds of our decision makers re: Leppitsch. Fortunately, we seem to have locked in some decent medium term sponsorships early this year which might give us a buffer to ride out another tough year if we think it is the better call.

Also, I think you might see those numbers perk up a bit if:
  • we announce the new facilities; and/or
  • Schache re-signs before the beginning of next season; and/or
  • we get some kind of funding boost and related staff additions.
If a couple of those things happen, I think there'll be more positive press about our development prospects and probably an uptick in hope with that.

The figure is in fact going down even further, now just 13 per cent of Lions fan say we can contend within four years.

In one of the more obvious examples of Victorian media myopia, the headline is that Collingwood (66%) and Richmond (62%) fans deliver a vote of no confidence.

It's pretty hard to interpret surveys like this - the sheer extent to which we're an outlier suggests we have a very small sample size compared to other clubs - but Kevvo our fans are probably the most pessimistic about that timeframe because our prospects genuinely are the bleakest over that timeframe. I don't think the problem is a general attitude of negativity around facilities and staffing, I think the problem is that we're rather a long way off the pace and have fewer reasons than any other club to think we can make up the shortfall in four years.

Those figures are an exaggeration, of course, but it doesn't require any additional explanation to figure out why our fanbase is so negative about the short to medium term.

That said, it's not really a reason to sack Leppitsch. What will change those numbers is winning more games, so whoever the club thinks will more win more games is who should be in charge.

Generally speaking, I agree with everything you've said here. I do actually think that we are the furthest off of anyone, but I'm not sure the distance is as far as that poll suggests.

I guess what I was thinking is that there are several other clubs whose realistic prospects of challenging for a medium-term premiership appear (to me) to be comparably bad. Gold Coast and St Kilda are two that come to mind. Neither have recent evidence of success, both are looking at the losses of important players in the imminent future, and neither are 'destination clubs' by league standards. What separates us from them in my mind, in terms of hope, are:
  • Recent high draft picks-- both of those clubs have had a few more than us, and I think that makes it easier to sell hope. If we were to pick up maybe 2 more top 20 type kids this year to replace our list depth that were taken in the 70s, we might start to paint a better long term image. Also, re-signing our most promising high pick in recent memory would be a big help.
  • Facilities-- I'd guess that neither St Kilda nor GC fans particularly think about their facilities, because they either have new ones or are getting them. I don't think their facilities would necessarily be a meaningful positive for them. But, for our fans, they are a bleak reminder of our plight. I'd say that fixing that situation would remove one of the worst ongoing reminders of us being hopeless.
  • Coaching appointments--- maybe this wouldn't rouse the fans directly, but I think it would improve some of the coverage we get by more informed analysts and that might make its way into our press.
