Essendon broke the WADA doping rules, we've gone looking for a mental edge using methods that do not contravene any rules at all.
Nice attempt though to try and link the two together even though they're poles apart.
Quite simply, the VFL doesn't want us to win
To get so close and lose, they were relieved. Plus, it gave everyone the ammunition to sink the boot in over the summer.

Yet we still make the GF.
Look at it from Melbourne or Carlton's perspective.
Melbourne, terrible club on the bottom of the ladder for years. Given draft pick after draft pick after draft pick, tank, favourable draws, minimal travel, but they're hopeless.

How the hell did we get so successful, with so much against us? Because we're simply a better run club. What, Melbourne and Carlton complete in a crowded Melbourne marketplace, it's not fair? It's a national competition now ****heads, if you don't like it fold or move to Tasmania. It's stupid entitled thinking like that which led to the near-collapse of the VFL in the 1980s. Don't come crying to me, i wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.
The VFL are deathly afraid of us becoming a juggernaut. Deathly afraid. Now that we've got decent management, the ******* dragon is awake baby.
EDIT: just to clarify, i'm not necessarily saying the AFL is secretly the VFL*. Think of it as the mindset of all the Victoria media who wish it was still the VFL.

Attending the Grand Final changed my life and opened my eyes.
It is run like a state league event. It's like a carnival celebration of Victorian football.
There was no infrastructure to accommodate out-of-state people in getting to the match venue.
Match day prizes included tickets to a "home game" at the MCG the following year, and Richmond Tigers paraphernalia.
Fan engagement announcers at the ground treated it like a home game for the Victorian side - "these South Aussies, they don't like it do they?! Let's send them home disappointed!"
Then come the player entrances, and you realise just how hostile and foreign this environment is going to be to win a championship in.
And then the game starts. And it's officiated like the worst of arm-chair rides you see home sides get in front of parochial crowds during the H&A season.
I don't know why I couldn't see it before. That this competition is literally an expanded VFL. That it remains, culturally and operationally a Victorian football league. It has never gone national.
And Victorians don't like us. Because our historical context for each other is State of Origin. And we bear those colours.
They do not want us to succeed.

Caro suggesting its not sloaney, rowey suggesting its possibly lynch, having to be without a phone when his wife is pregnant. This could also apply to Betts.
Surely they could have arranged someone on the camp to have his phone as that alone is a valid enough reason to need a contact point. Caro going back on last night now and saying here are issues, bloody hell im over this.

I've selected the Crows in a multi but hedged against it with a H2H bet on Richmond at 2.20.
I can understand a player (and his pregnant wife) being angry about not having access to a phone. I also wonder about references to Phil Walsh ... I'm not happy that this was leaked though. Take it to the Club hierarchy, and sort it out there.

I understand Jacobs didn't take part in the extra-tough mental workout camp. Are you saying his brother's death was talked about in another situation, or behind Jacob's back, and he was told, then told his wife, who then complained and leaked it to journalists in Melbourne?

I am old and have had to change a lot of perceptions and biases I grew up with, but the 1 thing I learnt as a player, coach and supervisor is that you have to handle indigenous players and workers more carefully. Face is not just a Chinese thing. It is also part of the culture. If you are upset or want to impart a message then do so away from the group.
I am surprised that, if true, the club and coaches forgot that or even if the Presenting Group considered it

My wife just rang me because she was listening to Caro on the way home and my wife seems to think that Caro has mistakenly said Curt... before quickly changing what she was going to say. I didn't hear it myself so I have no idea.
So it's possibly Curtley Hampton.
My wife also said Caro suggested that the said player may not be at the club next year and I am pretty sure that Hampton is only contracted until the end of the year so he definitely fits the profile.
