So a hanging kick or a poor decision is purely down to the coaches? They aren't the ones kicking it or making the decision.
Our skill base is substandard what on earth do we do at training every week?

We hear stories all the time of players at other clubs who work on this that or the other to improve their skills. Why have a coach at all if he isn't going to improve the standards of the team?

Fitzy has looked out of depth, but he is a youngster playing first quarter of AFL footy for the year, against one of the best sides in the comp. He could be forgiven for not being up with the pace of the game.

Some good signs despite the score. Jones, Trengove and Terlich have got a fair bit of it in the first quarter. Pederson and Garland have look composed and taken a few marks down back. Daley looks got when he gets it, ditto Jack Watts and Howe. Dawes is presenting up forward well and is giving us a good option forward.

On the bad side of things, can Rodan get hold of the ball, should have had about 4-5 posies that quarter, instead he might not have got one. Kent needs to use the first option a bit more, but look its only his 3rd game, so that will come. Ditzy had a bit of the fumbles as well.

Endeavour is there I reckon, but there is a gulf in playing ability between the two sides. You have some guys out there who aren't really AFL standard, but you have a few good shining lights. Terlich, Jones, Watts, Dawes, Garland all quite good.

A forward line with Dawes/Watts moving up the ground with Clark close to home would pretty nice.

Dawesy and Watts both working very well so far, and Terlich and Frawley doing alright down back as well as Garland and Pedo doing some good things.

Aside from Kent off the bench, Nate Jones bringing his usual high standard also of course - 10 possessions so far, 4 contested, and 3 clearances :thumbsu:

Quarter-time stats:

the pressure and effort and tackling was awesome, but it worries me that that was close to our best and the hawks were in about 3rd gear and they could still be 40 up at quarter time

Just gonna look at the positives for now

Garland is an a Grade defender
Dean kent, love the way he plays doing the terlich job in the front half
Dawes work rate will open up so much space for clark one day
Jack watts making the decision to break 2 tackles and take it on himself... that was confidence and wanting to do something

Fitzys been crap but hopefully its nerves

Another strong mark by Dawes just before.

But turned over across half-forward and the Hawks surge down the corridor, ending with a goal to Smith on the run from 30.

Demons 0-3-3
Hawthorn 4-9-33

The difference in quality encapsulated right there.

What was that, just let him jog in.

Where the only team who's opposition always has free men both in the forward line and defence at the same time.

It took Fitzy a few weeks in the ressies before he started kicking bags, must be a confidence player. Give him a few in a row FFS.

Stupid zone defence responsible there. Always ends up with us guarding the wrong spots while the man runs straight through the gap.

Fitzy has played 3 senior games to date and practically panics every time when near the footy. Once he settles down he'll be a lot better IMO. It's a matter of how many games we can put up with but given where were at I'd give him a few games regardless.

Still a lot of footy left today though for him to shock us.

Liking Evans' work today.

Great chase by Chip. Anyone who says his effort this year isn't there is talking out of their arse.

But the turnovers hurt us SO much. We were out and then turn it over in the middle of the ground.
