Your list is arguably better than ours was in 2004.

Lolz.

Anyway, thanks for the post.

Short of getting Clarkson, which would have to be unlikely, I would love a dream team combo of Roos and Laidley, the latter for his match day tactical ability and the former for hopefully being able to bring the players together and get them playing with some passion, direction, confidence and ideally a game plan too.

We need a man who is successful but also left-field enough to understand the absurdity of it all.

Lot of votes for Choco but not many comments on him. His record at Port, up until the last few years, was pretty good. Hard and experienced, and has managed to stay involved with clubs so will still be current. Think you could do a lot worse than him

Definitely agree, I think we reckon him behind Clarkson and Roos, maybe Eade too, but surely we would take a good look at him.

It may be worth it just to make Richmond angry by straight out poaching him from them. They can have Rawlings back in return if they want him.

Totally Agree, I would prefer Choco in obviously behind Roos and Clarkson. He has tasted the ultimate success and knows what it takes to get there.

Working with the young guys at Richmond in a development role, which is one of our biggest flaws and has been for some time. Would work wonders with the younger guys and developing them into leaders of the club.

Ticks a lot of box's

I think your best option is Paul Roos.

Rate him higher than Clarko.

Without being disrespectful, why would Roos or Clarkson take the Melbourne job? Clarkson is on a good wicket where he is, and I just cannot see the logic in Roos taking the job. His standing allows him the luxury of picking a team being on his terms - similar to Malthouse.

If I were you guys I'd be hoping for Sheedy and an understudy Scott Burns type.

Mitchell, Crawford, Hodge - that midfield is already streets ahead of ours even if the rest of the list was full of ruckmen.

Mark Williams.

Should be able to get him. CAN WIN A FLAG. I see that as most important feature. Yes there a good coaches but not many know what players need to do to win a flag (first hand). He has been there and wont accept any standard lower than what is needed.

Lol, why would we 'want' that.

This is about what we want, not what will happen!

It wasn't really at the time though..

Hodge averaged 15.5 touches that year to Mitchells 18ish.

Crawf was a gun.

For some reason i couldn't vote... But clarkson, please please please clarkson. We don't want another unproven coach to try rebuild a rebuild (f*** i hate that term) bring in someone with a succesfull track record who will want a challenge. Clarkson or Roos

Because what higher accolades could you possibly get the turning this train wreck around and winning a flag, hell winning a game would be enough at the moment.
These guys love a challenge thats why their in this role

The difference is how tough those players are those. They bleed for their club. Hoping Viney, Trengove and Toumpas will do the same for us.

Back then 20 touches was a solid game. Now the equivalent is probably 30. Been a lot of rules changes under the bridge since those days.

Maybe. You look at Mick though and he could have had the job if he'd wanted it you'd think. Same as Port. Alternatively Roos could have come in at any stage already, and hasn't.
You may well land a big fish, but guys with a pedigree I can't see taking the job currently.

Having said all that, surely you have a better replacement before you sack your current coach. Maybe that is for another thread though.

Sure, but the elite players were still averaging 23+ disposals.

Believe it or not, Hodge and Mitchell didn't become elite footballers the minute after they were drafted!

Dermott Brereton on SEN as we speak. Talking a lot of sense about this topic.

The Ox on SEN was really good before actually - was some insightful discussion between him and Rohan Connoly
