Members is the foundation. Getting people to rock up is the next step. We continue getting 25k MINIMUM to games and crack 30k more than a few times before Round 12, all whilst constantly bringing up the horrid deal the SANFL set up for it's two clubs, comparisons to Geelong's deal and to the Western Australian teams deals and more and more people (Victorians/Australians) are going to take some kind of ear to it all, bad publicity for the SANFL hopefully. It rained down on them hard last year and they bandaged it up with pathetic 'initiatives' like get X amount to games and receive ten bucks extra! Gotta keep pushing forward hard.

Off topic , I know. :D

Apparently the whole shebang is up for renewal/renegotiation in 2 years time - well according to the article in todays Advertiser on the position of the AFC regarding any possible move to AO.

They must have started the phone calls well before 4.00pm because an increase of 1600 in 30 minutes would not be possible.

The initial tally though was from the 12th (according to the website), so from then to 4:30pm last night we had increased by 1,600. With a bit of luck we doubled that or more by the time the lads finished last night!

26,085 at Wednesday, March 17 with 3,305 non-ticketed. We are definitely up from last year and it'll be a slow but sure climb back up to even more solid numbers I think.

The 26k doesn't include non ticketed though.

Did anyone realise that the SANFL is giving SANFL club members a free ticket to the Crows and Port too!

Close to the 30k then!

Honestly, going by the comments on Facebook I really think we should do at least one more round of Player Phonecalls.

I think if everyone was able to send through a few friends numbers aswell they would get even more. I know a heap of people who I have been trying my heart out to get memberships and I know a call from a Player or Coach etc would get them over the line.

Just rang up to shift a seat into a non-renewed seat that I know for a stone cold fact has not been renewed only to be assured by the club that no, it has been renewed.

Double-checked with non-renewer, no, hasn't renewed it.

On top of the three membership cards some have received and Miss' being misgendered as Misters you can probably take the membership tally with a pinch of salt imo

I posted this in the sponsor thread but perhaps it belongs here

"Today I applied to purchase another 6 memberships - three full and three planet teal memberships and I will be "gifting" these to three single parents that I know who cant afford to go to games at the moment whos children are huge port fans. Using the powers initiative that planet teal members can get free matchday tickets it means that these families can get some quality time whilst also getting the kids involved in supporting the club from a young age.

If more people are interested in chipping in 20 here and 20 there, perhaps we could set up a trust account to receive paypal donations and then use that money to purchase memberships for those fans who love the team but cant afford to go to games. (I wouldnt pay for those who can afford it - they need to put their money where their support is!!)

who would be interested in that? I would have to look into the legalities of how to accept the money via paypal and then how to provide security to those donating so that they know the money is being used as promised etc - we could do it as a bigfooty "power to the people" project?

anyone keen - if so, i can definately look to take the next step in preparing something?

**edit - or we could approach the power about this to collect the money on our behalf and when the amount gets to enough to purchase a membership(s) throughout the year then they can donate the tickets on our behalf to a charity organisation, person or persons who they deem eligible? - that way the "donators" would feel secure that the money is going to the right people and the power can provide further advertising of this project through its website etc?"

Hi DT. Went thru a similar exercise (from the other end of the stick) and think I can give you an explanation.

The membership renewal letters back in December told us that seats would only be 'reserved' for previous members if they renewed by 15 January.

For a number of years, my lad has had to sit directly in front of me and my partner/friends because there never been any spare seats in our row nearby. So this year, on the 16th Jan, I rang the club and found that someone next to me hadn't renewed their seat in time, so I got it for my lad.

I would suggest that the same has happened in your case. Even tho your mate didn't renew, someone has probably snapped it up after Jan 15, looking on the system as if it has been renewed.

LOL.

I went in there twice shortly after the Jan 15 cutoff to do exactly the same as you - knowing for a fact this person wasn't renewing - only to be told that they were placeholding non-renewed seats because the club were planning to do a ring around to lapsed members and the cutoff was only tentative for everyone other than Platinums, so no, I couldn't have the seat and could only have it if this person rang and expressly declared they didn't want the seat.

No worries I thought, I'll give it a few weeks after this so-called ring around.

In mid-Feb I went back, the girl behind the counter said OK, it's been long enough, we should be able to put that through now and took all the details down, "you'll get a new card issued within a couple of weeks".

Nothing. No call. No new card.

I check today, and apparently the same person has since renewed - when they clearly haven't.

Our whole membership database is a joke really. My theory is, when the girl at the Megastore handwrote out the seatchange it's been wrongly entered as a seat renewal for the requested seat. Problem is, I have no proof of this as it's listed in the computer as a sold seat, just like mine or anyone else's.

Huge headf#ck to get this sorted, so I'm just gonna leave it and hope we're not separated by some plump Crowpsycho at the home Showdown or someone else. God knows what's happened.

Don't worry, I asked for my payments to be taken out over 6 mths as we are tight, full amount was withdrawn today. :) Got to love our club heheh

Frankly I am a little frustrated if some of our members are getting things incorrectly done through the membership department.

have you lodged complaints? FishingRick, I do hope you have lodged a complaint, as otherwise the club does not find out and they wont know if you only post it on here.

The club needs to know these issues - I do hope they actually read these threads on membership. We need all the members we can get - P***sing people off is not going to help us.

I'm not fussed, the part payment was more for my wife whose stressing, but i will flick em an email.

Syd they would have been under the pump yesterday too.

But all big business customer service has gone to crap.

Look at Netregistry, I call about an accout payment, waited 30 mins with 13 in que, last 3, phone disconneted their end. So I call back but instead of select accounts I select sales, AMAZING st8 through to someone. He says he'll transfer me, I said not back into a que hey, I get told of course not, transfered to no.19 in que. 40 mins later I tell em they took money out without my approval, they said they don't need it and their services jsut keep continuing on unti lI cancel. So I say, I cancel, they say, can't over the phone!!!!! 20 minutes later they do it.

90% of the time I call Optus, it takes 5 transfers and 50 mins easy.

Yellow pages, 5 months been arguing over a bill, they cancel it, send another bill out later, my wife today called twice, each time, on hold, then disconnected.

Bigger the business the crappier their custoemr service.

You just know it will happen, then there will be a huge thing about asking to swap seats *facepalm*

I spent all my good hard earned coin on an AAMI Stadium Membership.

As a side note, I ditched my AAMI memberships this year (2X Cat 1) due to the price for seat reservations - a grand for 2 tickets is a bit rich.
They called me to find out why I did not renew so I told them, they sounded shocked/bemused.
Cant think I am the only one who dropped their AMI tickets because of this increase..

Just got the Pickard Power pack in the mail. There is a form tehre where you can put friends names to be contacted. Not sure who will contact them though.

At the end of the day, if you want that form of membership, the AFL is probably the best membership to get as you get finals tickets, GF priority, allocated seating at AAMI for home and away plus some games in Victoria too. SANFL membership is a rip, you get H & A and that's it, nothing for finals, nothing in Melb.

http://www.roymorgan.com/news/press-releases/2009/906/

A bit dated, but 80,000 is a HUGE DROP in people following port, that was like a 1/4 of our total supproters.

What is going on there! Grand Final slaughter? The Power V Magpies debate. One thing to lose members but to lose 80,000 followers just doens't seem right

just goes to show how bullshit the roy morgan poll is

the 2 most supported clubs supposedly are Sydney (by a VERY big margin), and Brisbane

who are the worst 2 clubs in the AFL with regards to members???
yes thats right... Sydney and Brisbane

But we are talking followers here and not members. It's like when we had the rams. if I was polled and ask who do I support in rugby, I would have said the Rams, because they are an SA team.

So that's 80,000 people who many had said yeah, I like Port to now saying meh don't give a rats. I am sure this figures are hugely determined by on field success, which generally attracts followers. But 25% in one year is a big margin to lose. or 10% sinse 2001

The value of the Roy Morgan polls are not their absolute numbers but their relative numbers and the fact they use a consistent sampling methodology over almost 10 years and that they have a decent sample size of low 20,000's respondents. So they will pick up trends in both casual and non casual support.

The Sydney and Brisbane absolute numbers are skewed to the very casual fans, so yeah you can ignore that. But the relative totals for the other 14 clubs is pretty reliable.

It clearly points out that WCE, Adelaide, Collingwood and Essendon are the 4 biggest clubs and as we have seen in past 5 or so years, these are the clubs that are virtually bullet profit to still recording decent profits event hough they might spend 2 or 3 years in a row in the bottom 4.

I recieved my replacement membership card today with correct details on it.

What was interesting though, was the seat number. As others have mentioned, the far right hand side was cut off on many membership cards. Mine used to read Seat 1, now it reads Seat 19 and it looks like that's because the first 9 used to be cut off. Could be a bit of confusion.

I can see it now. Two peoples tickets read seat 19, there's a huge dust up and both patrons are removed. Meanwhile there's not one person sitting in the rest of the row.

*facepalm
