Well then I guess Ruckman are the Most Usless Players on the List and Team Waste there Time trying to get a Good One.

Menzal has Crap Knees anyway. Who would want that?

Unless you're really special like Cox, then yes, they are IMO. Cox is a highly skilled footballer in all aspects who happens to be tall enough to ruck and is good enough to utilise his height... Most of the rest are low-skilled footballers in most aspects, but ruck because they're tall.

There's the OP for you in case you missed it.

Grundy is leading the hitouts because the other 3 players in the OP arent ruckmen

Grundy is in his second year and is holding down one of the most important positions in the side none of the other guys do that

Grundy looks better than what he is due to the midfield at his feet. You could have an inanimate carbon rod tapping to Pendles, Beams and Sidebottom and it'd look the goods.

Who?

It seems like every non Collingwood supporter has 'got my back'. Still waiting for some evidence of actual scalps that Grundy has taken.

That is Know real Surprise that Non-Pies Fans don’’t Rate Grundy on here:rolleyes:

Grundy is a better Ruckman then Kruezer

..have a laugh will ya, krooz has done an acl and broke a foot, pre injury he was looking to be a huge star.. ..grundy might follow a similar path, but is currently behind and hope for your sake you don't push and work him too hard too soon and cause injury, like we did with krooz and lime lions did with leuey..

Well, With all Prospect’s Injuries can Stuff your Career. You have Krooz and we had Fraser.

Ok - I think all the name calling, directed at both clubs and individuals, needs to stop.

In regards to the thread at hand: it's pretty early to be making a comparison - particularly that they are all different players and their teams are in vastly different situations.
Mayes has probably performed the best, but has also had to most game time.
I haven't seen much of Menzel or Toumpas, so I can't making any specific comments about them.

But regarding Grundy - it is pretty tough to be harsh on him. He is playing in probably the most difficult position for youngsters, and has been doing it for a top 8 side. My memory may be failing me, but I can't think of too many times that a 1st (now 2nd) year ruckman was holding down that spot for a top 8 side - say what you will about what that means about Collingwood - but the coaching and development staff have clearly seen enough in Witts and Grundy that they didnt see a need for bringing in a stop-gap ruckman for the next couple of years. (apart from Hudson as Insurance and coaching).

Although he does have some flaws in his game, in particular his tank and some discipline/brainfart issues - I am very happy with how he is going as a 2nd year ruck, and given that most ruckmen don't peak until their mid-late 20's, I am looking forward to see his progress over the next 5-10years. The thing I'm quite happy to see with him, is that unlike a lot of young rucks, he doesnt look like a 'boy' out their, and appears to have very good skills in the ruck contest itself. He still has a lot to learn about reading his opponent and perfecting his timing, but a lot of that will come with time and experience.

..agreed nothing is certain in football.. ..but the closest you do get to certainty, is over working a young ruck into injury.. ..I think he shows the same hunger for the contest that krooz has, vital in any ruck cos they set the tone for the whole match I believe, but that same work ethic can lead a young ruck to be over worked..

Has Grundy ever played a good game( not an average game)where he has been listed in the teams best players or received coaches votes?
Has Grundy shown any improvement on last year?

Will be very interested to see how Grundy goes against Longer this week because he seems to be averaging less hitouts and no one is pumping up Longer like they are Grundy.

Good to see Menzel in the Carlton best 2 weeks in a row.

No Grundy has not been named in the bests. As a second year player in the ruck its a but much to be asking for Brownlow medal winning performances just yet from a ruckman

Yes he is a better player than he was last year. Hes playing first ruck, last year he was played more sparingly. Still a long way to go in his around the ground game of course, at this stage of his career hes concentrating on his main brief which is ruckwork. Should be a good hitout against Longer who has been in the system a year longer and is a year older.....albeit he could only crack 9 games in a shit side in his first few seasons.

The difference with Grundy and most that came before him, is that he is not physically outmatched there. He appears as strong as, if not stronger, than most of his opponents - and that is currently one of the things that gets him into trouble - he needs to learn how to use that without giving away a free. Someone like Kruezer had the talent, but any experienced ruck could see that they could just manhandle him, no-one can really do that with Brodie.

I do agree that he shouldn't be overworked, but that is probably why we have had Witts playing in most games this year - they are pretty much sharing the load 50-50 (maybe 60-40 to Grundy), and have Hudson as insurance who will hopefully get a few games later in the year to give these guys some rest time.

I heard you mention inanimate carbon rods, the name jsut popped into my head. Having those gun mids around didnt help his career.

You hear "inanimate carbon rods" and the first name to pop into your head isn't Travis Cloke? Interesting.

We're talking about ruckmen and how easy its supposed to be if you have a good midfield. Thats the point you made, Cam Wood was my example of your point being ridiculous.

Try and stay focussed and not troll.

Hows Cameron Wood going?

He's doing pretty well at VFL level, thanks for asking.
As he cost us two tenths of **** all in the draft, he's a pretty handy backup ruckman to Warnock and Kreuzer.
