Re: Warnock nominates Carlton

Pardon my ignorance, but has Warnock actually done anything to this point?

On what I have seen (admittedly not much of Warnock), Griffin has shown far more than Warnock and he would certainly be my pick out of the two of them.

Do any non-Freo fans beg to differ?

It's a fair question. Warnock gets more possessions and Griffin marginally more hitouts in their short careers. Has Griffin had more tap opportunities than Warnock ? Naturally, Sandilands takes most of the 'ball ups' due to team advantage.

Having not seen enough of either, my question is: who has the better capability of pushing forward and kicking a goal ? The ability to hurt on the scoreboard is an important element of a ruckman's game. Imo, they're a tad overrated without this in their armoury.

Re: Warnock nominates Carlton

Can somebody from each side with high tec capabilities put together a You tube clip of both players???

Warnock last year when he took over Sandilands when he was down was Awsome.

I will say this again i would prefer Warnock over say Carltons pick 6.

Im gutted he's going and can only wish him the best.

I think you will find a number of WC fans who follow the WAFL closely will attest to him having a pretty good future.

The comparrisons to Cox are over the top - but he should develop into a number 1 ruck within 2 seasons. Beats having to draft a ruck and wait 5 seasons though.

Warnock will be a very good player, no doubt about that.

People need to stop comparing Warnock's stats from this year (when he was always number 2 behind a dominate Sandilands) to Griffin's stats this year (when he was pretty much number 1 ruck). If you want to be fair, you would compare Warnock last year after Sandilands went down to Griffin this year.

You would think pick 24 would not be enough to get the deal done. At least, it should not be enough. Fremantle is weak if they accept that (I don't think they will though).

Good post and I see why it makes so much sense ...Go Steelers!

What do you think they will do? Lose nothing for him?

No doubt he is talented but I've got a theory that there are certain characteristics deemed 'more attractive' by the football public but are not necessarily more important to the make up of a good player.

I think Warnock is one of those guys who is perhaps overrated because of how comfotable he looks kicking the ball and how he is balanced when he runs. He 'looks' a million dollars. I think this has been inflated even more because Cox also shares those traits.

What I dont think Warnock has are hidden traits that make up good players that people just watching him on face value dont see. Going off what I heard of him at Freo and West Perth, I dont think he has a great attitude at all. I dont think he trains particularly hard or runs particularly hard during games.

In essence, I think there is a possibility that he could be style over substance. While I think he will be a good player long term, I'm not sure he will be much better than a guy who runs himself into the ground and gives his team everything.

That said, I would think he is worth a top 20 pick.

I think a decent trade would be warnock for richmond's pick 8. heaps of tigers fans want vickery at 8 but realistically hes not going to be a great ruckman for 5 or so years. Richmond have a great list of mids and in a couple of years when warnock is in the top 3/4 ruckmen in the comp, he'll be tapping down to a bunch of mids in their prime (delids, cotchin, etc). Seems like a trade that would suit both parties. Richmond are gonna need a ruck in the next 2 years if they want to push the top end any time soon and we can pick up the best mid available. Carlton won't offer six, so its definitely the best deal freo can hope for.

Key word.:thumbsu:

I think you can forget a top 10 pick........there's only one club who would do that trade......and in this case, its impossible.;)

I could see Freo playing the pick 17 from the dees for a nobody in this deal. Let Warnock go to the preseason draft.

Melb could make this one get messy.

Lol.......yeah but Laycock got the h/o in that first clip.
Stop talking Warnock down in every single thread.

That was Warnock's first year.

I guess you don't remember how Bower played in his first or second year with his blind runs out of the backline. ;)

Kreuzer has been beaten in ruck contests by Laycock this year due to a lack of size and strength.

Just like Warnock in that contest.

No comment on Warnock being alert enough and smart enough when to rove the ball (received a professional free kick).

And you're supposed to be one of the more knowledgeable Carlton posters.

LOL.
