On the other hand, we've not lost a Test by declaring our second innings since well before Clarke became captain.

It's not like we're a team that goes around giving the opposition generous chances to win.
We rarely had the opportunity in Clarke's tenure tbh.

the very connotation of a sporting declaration is "what a nice man, he's trying to make a game of it". no. it should be "he's doing it to win the game"

Or as I called it in the match thread a Cronjesque declaration, one made solely to prevent a draw as an outcome.

Nothing that he hasn't said before. Just that there was disagreement over when the song should be sung. He got upset because he believed it was the absolute prerogative of the 'Custodian of the Song' to decide when that was, and Hussey hadn't given the okay. Came across as about as lame an excuse as it sounds.

Said he was sure it contributed to him getting dropped when Clarke became captain, which is probably stating the obvious but voicing it made him sound pretty bitter. He probably would have been better off keeping his mouth shut - it's hard to put a positive spin on throttling a teammate.

Never hear Clarke bring this up repeatedly, why does Katich feel the need to? Move on, grabbing someone by the throat has no excuses if it's simply just a disagreement.

I caught the tail end of the convo, I don't think Kat raised the subject, and it sounds like he was relatively level headed about describing what happened?

He didn't, he was asked about it by Jim Maxwell. Thought the question was a bit distasteful, really.

I still reckon he should have just declined to talk about it. The whole situation is so ridiculous that he couldn't help but come off a bit like a schoolboy in the principal's office, trying to talk his way out of trouble.

I thought the whole thing was very carefully choreographed to make it look like Maxwell was asking him questions he didn't want to answer. I had the impression by the end of it that they had discussed beforehand that the topic would be covered but Maxwell would make it look like it was all his doing and Katich was a somewhat unwilling participant. I'm not suggesting that Katich wanted to talk about it necessarily but just that he was aware it was going to come up.
