Well he's quite wrong but other than that, yes, he completely nails it.

No but thanks so much for checking. Are you upset mate? .
Executive General Manager Inclusion & Social Policy AFLWhat is her title?
Yeah, the phrasing is so weird. It's so desperate to make being aware and understanding of circumstances outside one's own a frivilous, idiotic thing. 'Sensitivity to the issues of sub groups'. Yeah, ****ing awful. What kind of world would that be?Showing compassion and empathy for people is such a problem to some campaigners.
“Life becomes burdensome” he says as he supposedly nails it.
Who are the real snowflakes?
Imagine having compassion, empathy and not wearing ignorance on your sleeve like a badge of honor?Yeah, the phrasing is so weird. I hear the phrase "offended on behalf of others" a fair bit, and do wonder what they are talking about.Imagine having compassion, empathy and not wearing ignorance on your sleeve like a badge of honor?
Some people just want to be pieces of shit that look down their noses at everyone that’s not the same as them, I guess.
Was the concept of a 'stay at home order' ever considered on an age basis though? I can't really ever recall it being discussed.
It was blanket. As a result, we risked the social and mental development of children, shut-down businesses, prevented people from attending funerals, forced people to stay in potentially life-threatening domestic situations etc etc etc.
We did that to protect the vulnerable. The medically affected and the elderly.
Was it ever proposed that we restrict only the movements of the people we were attempting to protect?
It probably doesn't matter now, honestly. This thread has discussed far more important issues affecting current day society.
Yep and when gambling advertising is banned it's going to be a rocky path for the AFL trying to get a similar rights deal.
The AFL is in a unique situation when it comes to gambling, the game isn't at risk from fixing. It's a tiny sport played by a handful of people at the bottom of the world, it would be complex to fix and the betting pool so small as to not be worth it. This leaves them free to actively not give a shit about the consequences of it all.Fed Govt know this which is why they wring their hands and claim they cant do anything about it - despite very easily being able to do something about it.
No gambling ads during C, G and PG rated programmes. No gambling ads before 8.30pm. But not only would the AFL lose hundreds of millions of dollars a year and need to find non-vampiric advertisers, TV networks would need to do the same.
They survived tobacco being banned and survived alcohol ads being restricted but they are very lazy and prefer to just be handed money for nothing.
Yep you're right, and iI dont know where I plucked the 5 from.Yes I think 9 goals at vic park whilst being racially abused by Collingwood supporters deserves accuracy in reporting.
I was there as a kid. I heard it and was shocked.
No expert, but surely any market us worth fixing, even if it's just by the players themselves. The AFL is in a unique situation when it comes to gambling, the game isn't at risk from fixing. This. Titus O'Reily's book "Please Gamble Irresponsibly" (about the depressing saga of sports gambling in Australia) opens with the story of a (from memory) Victorian regional cricket team which found itself the subject of massive international gambling interest, with huge consequences.Australian soccer league had game fixing and they are minnows compared to the AFL. Crooks dont care about the size of the comp, and its probably easier to fix games when the comp is smaller.
I think anyone that tries to point to one single factor is being lazy. Or they're just ignorant.
IMO, and that's all it is, there were a number of factors.
Firstly, it's important to note that less than half of voters voted for him. He only had 1.5% more people vote for him than Harris did.
So it was very tight with neither candidate being particularly popular.
I think Trump won because:
- Biden was very unpopular. He was even unpopular when he beat Trump in 2020. He became more unpopular over time.
- Harris has never been popular either, neither as VP or as a candidate.
- Harris didn't distance herself from what was an unpopular administration.
- Pretty much every country in the world so far has voted out the government who they had when COVID hit, then voted out the one that tried to manage the mess. This was a huge factor. In that sense, the Democrats were sitting ducks. Inflation and all the other nasty residual COVID impact is pinned on them. It happened the world over.
- People are dumb. On both sides. But about 20% of American adults read at a 6th grade Level apparently. Many apparently didn't even know Biden wasn't running until they rocked up to vote.
- There's the hardcore religious nature of America society. Some literally think Trump has been sent down by god.
- There's the racists. You know, as the saying goes "not all Trump supporters are racist, but all racists are Trump supporters".
- There's the 'woke' stuff.
- People are sick of being scammed by the elite. Forever Americans have been telling us all that America is the best country in the world - but they've always been wrong. We've all known that it's not. It's a shitshow. They're only now realising it and are sick of the status quo. Trump has conned people into believing he's different.
- Trump is a con man. He's a professional liar. He's really good at it. He's much better at lying than the Democrats were. He's a very effective liar. I mean, Biden did better in every single economic metric that Trump used to beat to his chest about as evidence that the economy was awesome when he was in power. But in this election, even though Biden was ahead in all of those same metrics - he still managed to convince voters that the economy was a disaster! But then in the same breath tell them that it was awesome when he was in power! It made no sense, but he pulled it off.
- Trump won the media battle. As bizarre as it is, the bullshit on CNN etc. is now being widely acknowledged as being untrustworthy, whilst Joe Rogan and the 'independent Media' is considered trustworthy these days. Whilst it's good that people are finally sceptical of 'the news', it's staggering that they believe these charletans like Joe Rogan on 'independent' media. Of course Rogan and these guys are not independent at all. But people believe they are.
- Trump managed to convince a big chunk of the public that what the far left is bringing to the table is more dangerous than what the far right is. Via Joe Rogan and these types, he managed to normalise this narrative.
- Trump managed to simultaneously convince voters that he is anti war and all about peace - but at the same time apparently everyone is scared of him cause he'll bomb them if they don't do what he says. Huh?? Which is it?? But he managed to pull this narrative off somehow. Again, with the help of the independent media.
- The most important factor was Elon Musk though. The guy Trump hated and thought was dumb, until he decided to donate to him in staggering amounts. The guy that makes electric cars that Trump hates, that now he suddenly likes because Musk told him to.
Musk was the guy that managed to control the entire independent media narrative around Trump.
Just one example, is Musk tweeting false information about the support for victims of the cyclone, and it getting 2m views. He was challenged on it, so he retracted it publicly - but the retraction only had 16000 views. The lies get out there when you have a platform, and Musk knows this.
Musk and Trump have convinced average people that rich, powerful, crooked people that look after their own interests are the problem with their lives - and they should vote for them to fix it....you know, a couple of rich, powerful crooked people that look after themselves.
It's bizarre. You couldn't make it up. But they did, and it worked.
Musk, through his independent media platforms was able to continue the scam that Trump is a normal guy, just like the average battler.
That's what won him the election.
The country was a wreck under Bush. It was a wreck under Clinton. It was a wreck under Obama. It was a wreck under Trump, so over 80 million people voted him out. It was a wreck under Biden.
America has always been a wreck for most of its people. It's awesome for the rich guys, but absolutely sucks for the regular folk.
Trump won the media battle to sell lies that he's going to help them. It boils down to that really. It always does.
Yep you're right, and iI dont know where I plucked the 5 from.
It was a horrible day. I was behind the goals at the Yarra Falls end, my usual spot.
MacAdam and Winmar being abused was shocking, but from memory ths AFL did little to nothing about it.
There was a few media figures who protested it but the feeling at the time was "what can we do?" (I don't like Patrick Smith, but on this issue the flog was in the right, and he hammered the point, so full points to him).
The league didn't give a crap about North or Saints players, and lacked the balls to tackle racism especially at a big club.
It was Michael Long who arked up about Monkhorsts abuse and forced the League to take real action. He refused to shut up and I guess because Essendon are also a big club the AFL had to listen.
Very poor leadership leaving it to the players to force change (most of all by my mob). It's painful too, but we had to clean up our act so I'm grateful it happened.
Doesn't help MacAdam though.

To answer your question I don't think left wing or right wing has existed for several years now.
Why are all internet moderators like this? Is there a requirement that you have to be a major lefty with an overbearing interest in trans women?Showing compassion and empathy for people is such a problem to some campaigners.
“Life becomes burdensome” he says as he supposedly nails it.
Who are the real snowflakes?
“Virtually signaling”.woke = look-at-me moralising
virtually signalling is important, but public shaming of those who don't signal - equally important.
3am thoughts, and mentions of trans women when no one else did. Hmmm. Why are all internet moderators like this? Is there a requirement that you have to be a major lefty with an overbearing interest in trans women?
I was so shocked because you never really seen it over here at the time, sadly a big part of eastern states footy culture back then.Mate i have similar stories about Chris Lewis you would not believe how blatant the racism from players at the time
towards him
I know other aboriginal players have stated in thee late 80's early 90's he was the most racially abused player
I remember being on the boundary fence at the 3 tier stand end one game against Melbourne in the pocket and clearly
hearing Melbourne players at the time saying to knock the **** head of and other comments cant really say now
I was so shocked at the time
Ah yes, Western Australia in the late 80s, early 90s . Bastion of inclusive and progressive thought.I was so shocked because you never really seen it over here at the time, sadly a big part of eastern states footy culture back then.
