mike sheehans says cats have 14 of the afls top 50 players

Doesn't work that way though, just because all our players work well together and were able to push geelong doesn't mean that we should have 10 players. That's like saying since melbourne beat collingwood last year that they are better than the sides collingwood beat

I think that is his point. For what it's worth I think Collingwood have one player in the top 50.....Straunie

He's fecking put Hawkins as 'B-Grade.' The kid's played half a dozen games for absolutely minimal return. Whilst he'll probably become a dominating forward in the future he's done shite all to be labelled a 'B-Grader.'

Then he has the audacity to have a group labelled 'Too soon to tell.'

He's bloody put Sylvia in B-Grade, whilst Bell's in C-Grade.

I absolutely dispise that idiot.

When their top midfielders were out against PP late last season, they were well beaten at home. (Ignore the final score - they were well behind late in the game and got a great run on, and even then still couldn't hold on to the lead!!)

Even someone EVERYBODY likes (Corey) got a shellacking when he had to contend with the number 1 middies instead of the afternoon shift. Possessions in the teens when tightly marked. Look at some of the midfielders rated behind Corey etc in Mike's list and ask if he (and the others) are really better than the non-Cats.

How many second-rank midfielders get traded from a premier club to another club and don't make the grade? Those Essendon blokes who had to go in 2001, 2002 - none of them really reached the heights.

ok so lets judge every team and every player based on what would be close to their worst game of the year. They had top spot in the bag and were playing the 2nd best side int he comp who was fighting for a home final

no because collingwood didnt finish on top of the ladder and they didnt win the premiership by 119 points.

collingwood are more of a workman type team, they got closer to 100% out of themselves than any other side, where as geelong are all class.

just because the prelim was close last year still doesnt mean the 2 sides are close when it comes to talent. If you watch last years prelim again you will notice that when ever geelong were behind they always lifted and overpowered collingwood they had another gear to play in and had far more class

You do not have 14 of the best 50 players in the competition.

Pretty sure I saw the pies be very competitive with the cats twice and I also recall Port beating the Cats late in the year when the cats had a few out.

It is amazing when u loose a couple of A Graders how some of the so called other A Graders become B graders immediately.

Note: I am not doubting the cats have a great list but at max 6 in the top 50.

Tom Harley 2007:
13.8 disposals 5.4 marks 1.1 tackles

Trent Croad:
12.3 disposals 5.3 marks 0.6 tackles

Bret Thornton:
14.8 disposals 5.2 marks 0.9 tackles

Just thought I'd compare him to some other top defenders from last year. Add more if you like, but anyone saying he is no good is wrong. Top 50 maybe not, but no good...no.

Ablett, Scarlett, Bartel are top 20.
Chapman, Corey, Ottens are top 50.
S.Johnson, Mooney, Egan, Milburn, Selwood top 100
Ling, Enright, Harley just outside top 100

:thumbsu:I like that.....like when Des Headland was an A grader in a good Lions side:eek:

so all that says is the cats are not perfect and are not unbeatable.Cant believe people want to mention that we only beat collingwood by 5 points and we lost to port I mean how dare we win a close final and how dare we lose a game to the 2nd best side:rolleyes:

By your logic we should have 22 players in the top 50, seeing as we beat you.

Stupid, innit?

so there is some mathematical or scientific rule that says geelong must have a number of players that are made to look good is their ? and than what how do you work out who they are ? just pick names at random ?

What he's saying is Des Headland was a very good player at Brisbane with the blokes around him. Now he's meant to be the number 1 midfielder at Freo and he has not lived up to it.

I dare say the same would happen with Corey, Enright and maybe someone else from Geelong.

I do not understand how you could not possibly understand the example he just gave.

whats that got to do with geelong? because brisbane had few players who were made look good(not many) why does that mean that geelong have a few players who are made to look good ?

I find it hard to believe that people are just saying geelong are the best team therefore they must have a number of players who are not as good as they seem to be.Why cant geelong have 20 very good players (b+ and above)?

I know what hes saying but hes just assuming that to be the case.I agree with enright but Im talking more about the likes of Corey, ling and ottens.

I wouldnt have enright or harley in my top 50

Spot on, IMHO it is always easier to get a kick in a good team than a struggling team and to have players like Enright, Harley, Corey and even a young talented Selwood in the AFL's top 50, is nothing short of ridiculous.

Put these players directly against the majority of the other clubs' number one midfielder, forward or tagger and see how they would go.

Just off the top of my head now this would be how I’d rate the top 20:

1. J. Brown
2. C. Judd (when fit)
3. G. Ablett
4. D. Cox
5. D. Kerr
6. N. Reiwoldt
7. C. Cornes
8. J. Bartel
9. M. Pavlich
10. M. Scarlett
11. D. Glass
12. L. Hodge
13. B. Johnson
14. S. Black
15. N. Dal Santo
16. B. Harvey
17. S. Mitchell
18. ....
19. .......
20. ..............

I’d have missed a player or 8, but the last three could be from any of these, and the remainder are clearly worth a mention too as it’s just a matter of opinion:

L. Power, B. Rutten, S. Burgoyne, L. Franklin, S. Goodwin, A. Goodes, L. Hayes, T. Edwards, S. West, C. Bolton, B. Fevola, K. Cornes, C. Ling, H. Shaw

Also I'd like to have it known that Bartel and Corey have been my two favourite players outside of Hawthorn for the last 3 years. I like to think I'm not a biased person.

It's like saying Michael Schumacher is the best F1 driver in the world, but put everyone in a Ferrari and see how well he goes then.

Put Egan, Selwood, Mooney or Johnson into Richmond, Carlton or Melbourne and see how well they go.

For example, Essendon in 2000, Blumfield, Caracella, Heffernan and Peverill were hailed as superstars. They weren't.

Hate to say it but I am with the tigers fan

Scarlett Bartel Ablett Chapman Corey Ottens are top 50.

Could make a claim for Johnson and Milburn.

The rest are not in the top 50.
