Do you have an AJ Wilson playing in 1899-1900?Wilson (first name unknown. Played for Richmond in 1902, it appears in 1 game - 2nd August vs Nth)
I posted something about this a while back in another thread. I'm not sure if you missed it or simply dismissed it!! Roland Duncan played for Collingwood in 1900. R. Duncan went from Collingwood to Richmond in May 1902, so there should be a decent chance it's the same player:-Slightly off track. If anyone comes across the first names of the below Richmond VFA players , please advise.
The club is making all premiership players life members, so it will be good to at least have their full names.
A Davidson. (played for Richmond in 1902)
R Duncan (played for Richmond in 1902)
P Gibney (played for Richmond in 1902) (don't confuse with Percy Gibb who also played in 1902)
K Hardy (played for Richmond in 1902)
E Main (played for Richmond in 1902) . I believe he was the brother of Jack Main who also played in 1902 for the club. The club Annual Reports spell their surname as Maine. The press spell it as Main. It's possible that E Main was from Blenheim FC. In Richmond's Annual Report of 1904 it says that Jack Main is 'now in the golden West'
Manning (first name unknown. Played for Richmond in 1902)
Wilson (first name unknown. Played for Richmond in 1902, it appears in 1 game - 2nd August vs Nth)
A Jack Main played 1 game for South Melbourne in 1907. The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers says he was "ex-North Fremantle". I know he's not one you are looking for here but the story may still be worth checking out, as your VFA player may have been a VFL player (for another club).Slightly off track. If anyone comes across the first names of the below Richmond VFA players , please advise.

Permit for AJ Wilson to go to St Kilda http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article9057522 did he then come back or is it a different one? AustralianFootball website have no listing for him

Here's the death notice for John Alfred Main:- http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/205652392 (22 Dec. 1945)Thanks for the tip. There is a Maine who played for Nth Frem in 1904 it looks like. John Maine - and he suffered an pretty bad injury in 1904.
So if I try to follow his details, it might reveal for me perhaps a name of a brother called E. Main(e)
John Maine's permit to Sth in 1907 is here. and then it looks like he ended up in Pembroke FC in 1908
Jack Main was dealt with in the Inaccuracy thread - see post 970 and thereabouts. That seems to correlate with E Main and Jack "John" Main playing for Richmond. Thanks 35Daicos.

Late edit
At the time there was some debate about whether his name was Maine or Main from recollection it was discovered his name name may have been Maine not Main.
Have been reading up on permits and I believe there was discussion in 1904 about the ease of players heading West then coming back to a different Vic club gaining an automatic permit. I shall chase link . http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article10315620 though it does point out that a permit is still required so some paperwork must be out thereIt's just link from Richmond to Nth Frem that bugs me. I cant find a permit for it. And I can't even find a permit prior to 1902 of him coming to Richmond.
Thanks GreyCrow. I'm a bit pedantic when connecting the dots - but 35Daics research/Harry/and yourself paint a logical picture that we have the right Main/ehttp://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article10315620 though it does point out that a permit is still required so some paperwork must be out there

Reading through all the stuff on the other thread from quite a few months back (I'd forgotten it was there) only adds to the confusion! It's hard to know what to make of it all!!Thanks GreyCrow. The only thing irking me is the different spelling. But until something comes along saying it *can't* be those two men, I'm happy to run with the first name of Ernest Main. (Cause we know J Main is Jack Maine as it is listed in club's Minute Book) Cheers all
