Getting surgery is cheating too, it's not natural! Regardless of the current rules it's not about that, it's a moral choice, and considering they already dope you up to go under surgery and recovery I'm not sure why HGH in particular is "banned", it's ridiculous. You can take HGH for a short time and have little side effects but it will heal your wounded body. They should allow all wounded athletes the chance to go on it. It's expensive but worth it.
When you've had 3 knee surgeries it's time to look outside the box, no one will blame the kid for taking HGH to help heal if he's ever caught (he won't be, so this is moot anyhow). I'm sure there are plenty of AFL footballers already on it.
It's weird that people have this issue with drug use. Provided drugs have few side effects what's the problem with these guys taking them? Why is it ok to load up on the drug caffeine, the equiv of 20 cups of coffee before a match? At those doses it's not far from taking real amphetamines, yet over half the players do it.
Ask Duncan Spencer about his troubles with a banned substance. He was having a hard time with his back so he took a banned substance to help him with his quality of life. It worked that well that he was able to play cricket again at an elite level.
He gained medical advise as to how long it would take to be out of his system and he waited that time before playing - he then got a call-back in to the WA side and was drug tested and it was still in his system. He received a 2 year ban.
You may call it thinking outside the box but its a bloody stupid idea and should not be entertained by Freo.
