Hasn't shown enough.

Our team is 10 times better than it was in 2010. Van Berlo was a regular that year, there's no way Mora would have been dropped before him. There were also players, who he was better than, who have overtaken him during his injury absence e.g. Suban, Fyfe, Ibbotson.

Comparing the Freo of now, to the Freo of 2010 is a pretty ridiculous comparison.
Whatever you reckon spudman. You'll be eating your words along with those potatoes later this year.

I don't think he is best 22 yet. Half a season and that may change, He needs to prove himself first. He is not best 22 if he is fit, he is best 22 if his performances earn it.

You think Morabito will be fighting it out for our B&F? Are you serious right now?

If you are, that's why people are saying he's become overrated during his absence.

I said NEXT year Esti...2015. This is 2014. Can't expect him to win it in his first year back ! Can we?

He's proven himself to be committed, dedicated, and focussed. That, along with Salim's reports from training, is enough for me!

Yet apparently I'm wrong.

There's so much uncertainty about Mora that I don't think either camp is necessarily wrong, but I'm going to go down the conservative path at this stage. He's missed a lot of footy and he'll need to force his way into a strong team, I reckon he can definitely force his way into the side but it might not be until later in the season and not after a lot of hard work.

Right now assuming he's fully fit I'll say he'll be competing for a spot as a half forward flanker, rotating through the middle and resting forward so he'll be competing with Sylvia/Crozier/Neale; no easy feat.

And if he can't perform?

They'll give him viagra! Seriously though, for one second do you think Freo would have kept him around if they thought he couldn't perform? I know you're playing Devil's advocate or that you may have your doubts but lets take a glass half full approach..he's on the list, he's physically fit...could be good eh?

Something to get excited about!

Sometimes I wonder if the people who think Mora isn't best 22 have ever watched him play? This guy is an elite player. Comparing him to the likes of guys like Mzungu, Suban, C Pearce etc is ridiculous. They are not in the same class as Mora.

The only thing keeping him out of our 22 will be injuries.

Really? I would be disappointed if that happened. He is a power midfielder, and playing a full season of football would mean that he has overcome his knee issues and has a decent fitness base, which means that he has been available for selection but despite a full season has shown no form to warrant selection. Would certainly be a win for him in terms of his health, but also a significant blow to his career. Realistically he would be under pressure to retain his spot on the list if that happened.

I should clarify that I believe in Mora's talent and that he is a clear Best 18 (not just 22) for me when 100% fit.

That being said, as much as I'd love an Adrian Peterson-esque return from ACL surgery and having gone through one myself, I'm taking a more slowly-slowly approach to his recovery. The psychological barriers far exceed the physical ones which hold you back initially, and I can't even fathom having to come back from three. Small victories for mine to leading onto much larger ones! :thumbsu:

Playing a full season of footy goes a long way to healing those psychological scars which is what I'm focusing on - I'd have full faith on our medical team/sport scientists looking after the physical side of it and I would never even question Mora's work ethic.

That only makes sense if you ignore the training reports. There would be very deep psychological scars inflicted if, having spent a loooooong stretch going through several rehabs, and performing well on the track, that a player was given the indication that getting through a season of wafl was going to be a good step.

I think what he needs to know is that if he performs well, then he will be considered for selection.

If that's true then from what I've seen he's ready round 1!
I've seen him doing amazing stuff at my gym.
If anyone has seen one of those round balance boards with a rubber dome underneath like half a ball. I've seen him place the board upside down with the ball facing upwards, then, from a standing start a few meters away take two leaping steps and land on the 'ball' on his bad leg, coming to a dead stop, balance, bend and squat. Walk back, repeat, repeat, repeat...

He also is totally focused on his goal. I don't think I've seen a more determined guy than him.

He had LARS surgery a year ago, spent 6 weeks recovering and has been training ever since. How slowly do you want it to go? Why not just delist him if we aren't ever going to give him a game in case he gets injured?

People are getting pretty silly about this. Morabito will be playing.

It will be bang or bust for Mora and he will play early. There is no point in another season of the softly, softly approach.
Could be an element of that salim but at the same time the club wants a long term player not just one or a handful of solld or brilliant games;there will be balance in the approach.
The thing which makes this all so difficult to assess is that Mora has been here twice before with prolonged and ostensibly successful rehab practically completed. The hybrid Lars will be the difference that makes the difference I believe and this time we will see Mora back to and better than his previous brilliant best;as most of us recognise, that is breathtakingly good.:thumbsu::thumbsu::rainbow:
