More reward for finishing top

I don't think finishing on top has enough reward attached to it in the AFL. Finishing second is just as good.

Every major professional team sport in the world reward the top team with either the pennant or real home ground advantages during finals/play offs.

Is it time we reward the team finishing top, home state advantage in a grand final?

Doesn't happen in the NFL. Barely happens in the NHL, NBA or MBL (you get a 4-3 home game advantage).

I like the idea, although if port finished first and made the grand final, only 21 thousand would turn up

Could you imagine 8000 people turning up to skoda if GWS got to host one?

The MCC paid for most of the stadium upgrade - pretty sure that the league has benefited from that...

Pretty sure the Melbourne clubs have benefited from that.

Also pretty sure that it is football crowds that have paid for the upgrade, not the MCC members.

I'm sure all of the upgrades would have happened on cricket memberships/crowds alone right?

The thousands of freebies given to MCC members is a farce.

Of course whilst the game is still operated out of Melbourne, it won't change.

Quit embarrassing yourself. People get MCC memberships because they enjoy going to the footy, and because they want to go to the grand final. If it only entitled entry to cricket matches the membership numbers would be far fewer and the cost of a membership far cheaper. Just because it has 'cricket' in the name doesn't mean that every AFL game is a 'freebie'.

So what percentage of MCC membership fees go to the AFL?

I don't know the figures - I believe the AFL pays the MCC for the use of the ground, but the MCC purchases seats back from the AFL. But consider that if the AFL was not able to use the MCG, they would have to finance another ground - either build their own stadium or continue to use suburban grounds that hold 20-30k. Either way, the AFL is far better off because of the MCC.

There is no bigger club in the AFL than the MCC. Membership is approx 102,000.
And not a 3 game membership to be seen.....its either full or restricted....the only difference is admission to the GF. No dog memberships, very few junior memberships. Theres no ability to opt out for a season or two, once you quit you have quit for life.

Theres a reason the facilities at the MCG are so good. Just do the maths....102,000 times $500. Plus takings in the bars and resturants ams guest passes.
