You could really say that Essendon have been almost as irrelevant since 2000, they have made only a few finals and have been obliterated in most of them, like the Adelaide game they lost by 90+ points.
Carlton are the Coca-Cola of feculent pus-encrusted sphincters.

Nobrainer, the blues. Essendon are horrible enough in recent times to gain a decent amount of our hatred but nothing and no club comes close to the animosity the blues deserve. To the poster who suggested they be shifted to Tasmania, no definitely not. Some uninhabited island, not here thanks.
Richmond - lets be frank here - have been a great disappointment. For a time they had reached the lofty status of being worthy enemies but since then have made an artform out of being irrelevant on the field. Pretty much what Carlton has been doing lately. The difference is whilst I might on the odd occassion of weakness feel sorry for Richmond, I celebrate every second of Carlton's abject uselessness.

My hatred stems from growing up with a lot of Essendon fans, and my mother being one herself.
Their supporters are by far the worst.

Essendon people's arrogance throughout this whole drugs saga thing has been fairly hard to stomach, and I am talking about actual Essendon people like Tim Watson, James Hird etc... but also Essendon supporters I know.
That said, Carlton are the evil which corrupt all else. They are so devious they turned the rest of the competition against us to make us look like the bad guys!? And all the while they laugh secretly at the rest of the comp as they salary cap cheat, poach players and kill small puppies just for fun!

I am not disappointed in Richmond at all! I really like what they bring to the table year after year. In fact over the last 30 years I've actually grown quite fond of them. Richmond is like my cat.. don't generally pay it much attention, doesn't do much, but can really make me laugh and provide good entertainment at times. They're both nice to have around ... kind of comforting...

3 Points I would make
1. I dont like any other teams so its just degrees of dislike and hate
2 2 teams stand so far above the rest in the hatred stakes it makes any comparison with any oth the other 15 irrelevent. Carlton and Essendon
3 I hate Carlton so much more than Essendon that I cant begin to describe the difference and I hate Essendon with a passion
Carlton , I was at 70, 79 and 81. I can never wish any relenting to the suffering their supporters have had since 95. I am so happy they have turned into such inconsequential crap. They are a long way off becoming good again. I think they are following the Richmond and Melbourne path. Eternal suffering with repeated false dawns. Even that position is too good for them.

The Essendon rivalry is very manufactured if you ask me.
That said, I have a lot of Essendon mates and they're hard to deal with when they're up and about. Then when they disappeared in 2010-11-12 none of them were seen or heard anywhere.
Regardless, the answer is definitely Carlton.

Up until the suppliment debacle I didn't mind Essendon. I have fond memories of them in 1990 and the ANZAC clash developed a respectful view. That has all changed now although they are still a distant second to Carlton.

Apparently when I was about 3 my idiot uncle tried to put a Bluesers jumper on me and I cried - been scarred ever since.
Now that I'm older and applying a bit of logic, the fact we can't beat them in a GF is a bit annoying, Essendon at least had the decency to be beaten by us

If you asked Carlton supporters this question the consensus would be Essendon.
Who gives a **** what they think?
We are a club with a great ethos, a great history of playing successful and fair footy. Not much you can hang on us except we are the biggest, hence we get the hate from most random almost-non-footy followers.
The other two clubs on the other hand have been fighting to see which of them can out-cheat the other and both carry a dysfunctional, nasty, arrogant culture. Only fair they compete and hate one another.
