Most overrated player in the AFL currently?

Most overrated ever, Shaun Burgoyne
Current, Jake Stringer

How was Shaun Burgoyne overrated ?

If anything he was underrated throughout his career.

Sheesh

Andrew McGrath. Josh Ward. Basically, the same type of player: completely vanilla, yet lauded like their running power translates to anything actually useful (more like headless chooks). Hard-running mids/flankers that offer little else are currently so overrated. It’s like teams trying for tall midfielders who aren’t actually any good in a weak attempt to have their own Pendlebury or Fyfe or Tuck, instead they get Nashes.

Josh Ward has played 21 games FFS. Nobody rates him, let alone overrates him at this time. He's a promising kid and that is all.

Aaron Naughton is another overrated player I should have mentioned, although granted an argument can be made he is being played in the incorrect position (he is better off as an intercept Key Defender)

Genuinely serious but a Jack Riewoldt is right up
There.

The premierships mask the fact he is an average forward who kicks large chunks of his yearly goeala when the game is NOT on the line.

I used the metric of 18 point difference and something like 65% of his goals are junk time goals.

He’s 13th all time goal kicker with nearly 800 goals. 3 x Coleman medalists. Nice troll.

Beaten easily and often when it matters, especially against Geelong. Believe it was 'Fev' who said he'd kick 10 every week playing on him.

Pretty good footballer, but not the A-grader he's made out to be.

You’re entitled to your’e opinion, I’m entitled to mine. Agree or not I will stick to my guns.

Richmond supporters rave about him as one of the all time greats. Wouldn’t even be in the top 10 key forwards of all time.

Sam Switkowski often seems to end up rated elite by champion data - which as much of a decent role player as he is, clearly is an overrating

Doesnt this mean he's underrated though?

Switta does all the brilliant things that aren't picked up by the stats man, he's similair to Cyril rioli (not as good obviously) in that he can be super damaging with out many touches of the ball. From pressure, tackling, side stepping to deliver a handball to a man in space. Champion data picks this stuff up, but random who hardly watch freo and just check the stat sheet for goals and disposals don't.

Sam walsh. Yea he works hard but thats it. Gets so much of his ball behind centre , rarely kicks goals , rarely penetrative with his kicking.

Reached his ceiling very quickly, just so happens it's a relatively low ceiling

Done a few good things at important moments, sure.

4 flags, you don't need to be a good player to play in a premiership.

No best and fairest or AA selection.

Yeah, you’re wrong.

Probably is overrated due to lack of quality KPD's in the league these days (not his fault btw)

No way does he make the AA team in the 80s, 90s or 00s, when the league was stacked with quality defenders and full backs.

People bemoan the seeming lack of explosive 100 goal a season full forwards these days, but I think it's more disheartening about the lack of elite defenders and esp full backs these days (the AFL and their constant and needles rule changes doesn't help either)

A lot of good looking roosters in that set. I think that's a large part of it. Consider Todd Goldstein, for example: no-one ever overrates him.
