Lachie Neale. Good player but bit of a handball merchant and not two time brownlow medallist quality.

You can be a “handball merchant” when you are elite by hand, as well as a clearance and contested possession pig. Someone has to get the footy.

Or do you have him mixed up with Lachie McNeil? Because for the quality he has produced for as long as he has, Lachie Neale is underrated, if anything.

Now thats the worst take. The guy has the most elite ball handling skills in the game.

Cleanest player in the comp one touch and sets up so many plays is an absoloute jet and years at Fremantle are underrated.
Do not worry he may not be a 2x Brownlow medalist for long.

There are two guys who are top 10 for clearances and contested ball while also top 10 for goal assists: Bont and Neale. They both win the hard ball but also set up scoring at a big rate. None of the other top hard ball winners get near those goal assist numbers.

Im also pretty sure of the top 10 contested ball winners Neale has the highest disposal efficiency.

Anyone calling Neale over rated isnt watching him play. He is far and away one of the best mids in the comp and has been for several years

He is a good player and his 2020 season was amazing but people are mainly calling him overrated because of his token award(2nd Brownlow), and poor start to 2024 as well as his inability to cope with a tag.

Even people saying it was a token award weren't paying attention. He was one of the favourites for the award and was top 5 in every other award that was voted week to week. He was clearly in the top 5 mids last year and that was after getting screwed over the year before.

Watching him this year its very clear his kicking has gone to another level and he is playing better than last year. He is likely going to be in the top few come Brownlow night.

If anything Neale should be closer to one of the more under rated players than over rated.

He's certainly overrated by most brisbane supporters I come across and I live in QLD

Or perhaps it’s confirmation bias, and you only notice the tag when it’s successful (which occasionally, it is). The fact he requires tagging says enough about his quality.

And that poor start? Missed a week with a hamstring injury, and despite that, over the first 5 weeks averaged:

  • 27.8 disposals
  • 0.8 goal assists
  • 7.4 clearances
  • 4.1 i50
  • 3.6 tackles

If this is him playing ‘poorly’, they may as well award Brownlow #3 tomorrow!

Although he had good stats he was unable to effect the game in any way and one of these games was against north, albeit he was subbed out. On multiple occasions his team needed him to lift and he was unable to. His disposals during this time were also ineffective, and although he might've played good, his direct opponent often had far better stats and impacted his team much better, this was shown in the results. His recent form has been superb though. I've also watched most lions games this year as I live in QLD and the game is often on Saturday or Sunday arvo and channel 7 snub me of Saturday night footy because of it.

Darcy Fogarty.
Somehow still rated.
He's awful.
Would be a star in the country but too short and slow for the AFL now

Nah, he's pretty good. He's a hard worker and just needs a better team.
