I remember the first time I went to Phillip Island to watch amateur car racing. I just had my hair cut, and I got burnt along the hairline, which is normally white because my fringe would cover it. It was a red outline around my forehead for months!

I remember going to Bathurst mc races five years in a row and doing burnouts on my duke and sleeping under the warmth. Racing was superb.

Another Aussie on the grid this weekend.



Harrison is very fast and I'm quietly optimistic of a strong result. He races European Moto2 and has won and podiumed in Aus Superbikes at his first try - including at Phillip Island.

I was fortunate enough to have a brief chat with Joel Kelso last Saturday at a meet and greet.

• he's feeling pretty confident for the weekend
• overall pretty happy with the year, being in the podium fighting group most races
• said their setup allows him to be fast but chews tyres - too much weight transfer
• has had some Moto2 interest
• the team he's is joining next year is much better resourced, much stronger technical package
• hoping to fight for the title next year then move on to Moto2

Held top spot in quali for most of it then in typical Moto3 style ended up 7th.

He's had a very good year all things considered, his teammate is a special talent.
