Profit for who?And yet the event doesn’t turn a profit.
Yeh I think countries are starting to see through a lot of the myths about the so called benefits of big event hosting like the Olympics, World Cups, Commonwealth Games etc..Profit for who?
Rest assured that the FIA and everyone in their circus makes a handsome profit.
The huge subsidy paid by the Victorian Government to keep the event in Australia has never been about turning over a financial profit. It's been about the economic benefits to the state economy.
And if you believe the economic modelling (paid for by the Vic Government) showing substantial multiplier benefits in terms of jobs, income and tourism benefits that far outweighs the $100m taxpayer subsidy provided every year to stage the GP then I have a bridge to sell you.
Look I have zero problem with State and Federal Governments subsidising big sporting events, if its proven to be in the public interest and what the voters want. But the way EVERY state government pumps up the economic returns from subsidising those events using BS rubbery figures really ticks me off. Be honest ffs - we get it - it's about bread and circuses/ rant.

Obviously it depends on the cost of hosting. Big events like the Olympics etc require far more capital outlay than an F1 race, although they would reap more back as it's 2+ weeks long and on TV all the time to more of an audience.Yeh I think countries are starting to see through a lot of the myths about the so called benefits of big event hosting like the Olympics, World Cups, Commonwealth Games etc..
However given F1 is in a boom state in terms of following, seems like everyone is still clamoring to host an F1 race. I reckon this will die off in a few years once the reality of it all sets in (that the locations outlay most of the cost, and see little of the return comparatively). I think in time we will return to a 20 race calendar
I thankfully got in and snagged a 4 day park pass in todays sale... Was 1,200th in the queue when it opened, and still had the 25% dynamic pricing increase on top of the "advertised price" in play the bastards!!Tickets for Sunday in Melbourne were gone at the public on-sale this morning![]()
still, i'd like to (reliably) know how much the state is stumping up.Yeh I think countries are starting to see through a lot of the myths about the so called benefits of big event hosting like the Olympics, World Cups, Commonwealth Games etc..

Dynamic pricing doing what it's meant to do - maximise profit for those gaming the system and **** those true fans with a genuine interest in the sport. Not something the Vic Govt would ever condone if it was the AFL GF but seem willing to look the other way when it's the Aust GP because its part of what the FIA and especially FOCA demand as a condition to stage the event.Tickets for Sunday in Melbourne were gone at the public on-sale this morning![]()

You and your family passionate about F1? FOCA don't give a shit.
Have a fat wad of cash in trust and generous tax payer funded offsets for hospitality benefits that you want to offload? FOCA can guarantee you access to the F1 paddock and a swathe of GA tickets accessed via the dynamic pricing model for your organisation to access and use for publicity purposes.
Geez I'm glad I got to see the Australian GP in Adelaide in the 80s when the fans actually mattered.
Not as an engine supplier though, just a technical partner.Toyota back in F1 with Haas
yep!Toyota back in F1 with Haas
Is interesting.I do wonder if they are dipping the toe in to see whether it's worth doing the engine supply thing again
Don’t blame ticketmaster. They don’t pocket the extra cash. I assume they do get more as part of the percentage of sales, but the bulk goes to the event promoter. In this case, F1.I was successful in the ballot, but decided not to use it after I finally got through the queue to discover that prices had been jacked up an extra 25% with their "dynamic pricing model"... will login again tomorrow during general sale. FFS Ticketmaster!!
I get that it's a popular event, but these jacked up prices during presales is just stuffed. Preying on people who are desperate to go to events/concerts knowing that they'll be scared of missing out.
But Marko said the driver pairings for both Red Bull teams are not yet fully decided, as Marko told F1-Insider.com that “Tsunoda is a candidate to drive alongside Max in 2025.
Is the impression in the paddock of Marko one of him still being mentally sharp? He basically seems to be a rent-a-quote for clickbaity F1 sites to a level that overplays his importance to RBR. Or is that unfair?![]()
Surprise Yuki Tsunoda twist at Red Bull as Marko performs U-turn
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has said Yuki Tsunoda is a possible contender to move up from VCARB in F1 2025.www.planetf1.com
He honestly should be. Even if he's a bit of a hot head, he will deliver more than Sergio does, and probably crash less.
Apparently it's because they were losing Japanese racers to Honda (for in country racing series)I do wonder if they are dipping the toe in to see whether it's worth doing the engine supply thing again
