Legend Elevation
5. HoF Banner.png
In addition to the above, there is one extra level of recognition for posters who have made an obvious and unmistakable contribution to our club over an extended period. Where we see fit, we are able to elevate an existing Hall of Famer to Legend status at the Mount Buller Demons.

This is not something we do lightly, as is evidenced by the fact that our only Legend before now is Eth . But this season, on reflecting over one player’s career at this club, it was obvious to us to elevate Headless to Club Legend status.

This is a guy who has played a gobsmacking 400 games as a one-club player. He has been a long-time servant of the club in its leadership group and has – almost more than any other player – formed a central point for our culture and posting style as a club.

He rarely seeks a premium position on the ground, and has been happy to sacrifice his personal stats/league awards for the betterment of the club and its playing list. He embodies who we are and why we’re here and he really cares deeply about the long-term strength of this proud club.

I would like to congratulate Headless on this recognition. It is one which is thoroughly well-deserved.

Round 15
Round15.gif

We stumbled into round 15 against the only team that could have been considered shitter than us, and of course it was the Wonders. And thank god we could find a club that was in a similar depth of SIM misery as we were.

The match thread – as might have been expected – was not up to the usual Wonders-Demons thread standards in terms of activity or fire, but then again both teams were nursing crushed souls, so there’s an excuse. Still, ClarkeM managed to notch up his 111 posts, which was almost double the next poster for the entire thread.

We just LOVED seeing Eth lend us his masterful brain for stints in this thread, with a few of his posts showing he’s still ‘got it’…

ROUND 15.png

So the game of Qooty was set up – we were hoping to avoid our 8th straight loss and the Wonders were keen to avoid bottom place on the ladder. After starting poorly in the first quarter things were looking bleak for us, and the Wonders took the lead by as much as 24 points in the second quarter.

But somehow we found some bloody FIGHT, and we managed to kick some goals and somehow we took the lead in the third quarter and led by 44 points at three quarter time. From there, it was party time in the last quarter, as we kept the Wonders where they belong.

This game was the one where I learned that just because I play at Full Back doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to touch the Qooty. Once I figured this out, I went and had 31 bloody possessions and kicked a goal! Snags was also super busy and PG had a nice day in the ruck. It was a good match and we should all feel good.

Round 15 Votes

3 - manangatang [31 touches, 5 marks, 1 goal]
2 - sausageroll [20 touches, 9 marks, 1 goal]
1 - Proper Gander [12 hitouts, 21 touches]

Poster Of The Week:

So, each year as Captain we sit down and think about whether there’s a strong case for long-time club servants to be inducted into our proud and highly respected club Hall of Fame.

The current Hall of Fame includes giants of not only our club but of the league, and we are very careful in selecting only those who have made a genuine contribution to our club in one way or another.

Here are the guidelines we must consider when selecting potential inductees to the Hall of Fame…

  • There is no set limit on years of service or impact made, but it is trusted that those with extensive posting history and/or success will be considered.
  • A mixture and balance of on-field awards and off-field club impact is to be considered. It is sought that Hall of Fame members have added to the fabric of the club.
  • The decision maker on who to induct will not be a sole entity, but the leadership group as a whole with added opinions sought from those who have been on the playing list the longest regardless of whether they are within the official leadership group. Opinion can be sought from retired Mount Buller players still active on Bigfooty if their time at the club heavily overlaps with the player(s) in question.
  • Not only is it deemed that being a Hall of Fame member suggests that a poster has been a loyal servant to the club, but they have conducted themselves in a fashion which promotes the club throughout the wider SFA.
  • A player does not need to be retired to be considered.
  • Only time at Mount Buller is considered, and not time spent at other clubs.

This season there were a few candidates for me to consider on the above basis, but there are two players I’d like to announce have been elevated to the Mount Buller Demons Hall of Fame in Season 30.

Yakker is an ex-Captain and current Vice Captain of Mt. Buller, and has been in no small way responsible for building the club as we see it today. His win rate as Captain is (famously) 74%, and he led our club to its second premiership in Season 27. He won the EKA in his first season and remains one of our best posters.

This is a much-deserved elevation for Yak and he sits comfortably alongside our other Hall of Fame members. Well done mate.

The next inductee needs no introduction. However, because we’re on a text-based forum I probably should introduce him.

Tarkyn_24 is an absolute giant of our league and of course of Mt. Buller. He Captained the club back in Season 8, and while he’s spent a lot of time away from the club, he always comes back to us. He’s currently played 170 games for our club and is second place overall on our all-time goalkicking list.

His leadership and guidance over the many years of his career has been invaluable and has guided us through many challenging periods. He is another very worthy inductee into our club Hall of Fame and I congratulate and thank him for his contribution so far.

Congratulations to both of you.
Really well deserved. Congratulations to you both.

Congratulations to the 3 of you, just outstanding and just like the Players Award - you are all so deserving !!

Round 16
Round16.gif

Round 16 was a special one for all of us – in both a good and bad way. On the bad side, it was the last game for Loonerty for the foreseeable future. On the good side, it was game number 400 for Headless and the last of the ANUS HORRIBILUS that was Season 30. Yes, that spelling is deliberate.

I think Van_Dyke summed up the sentiment beautifully…

ROUND 16.png

The Hawks were great value for the week, with PMBangers spamming the joint up, alongside eth-dog , Agent93 and Chipmunk . It was a really positive way to end a not so positive season. That’s just me being honest.

So onto the game – what a rollercoaster this was. The Hawks led at quarter time, but we piled on the goals to take a 4 goal half time lead. This was quickly narrowed in the third quarter as we were forced to hold on grimly. Fortunately, our defence did hold up early in the final quarter, and once our midfield got back on top we gapped our rivals and ran out 8 point winners.

It was a great way to finish our season, and proved that while much didn’t go our way in Season 30, we still fronted up and gave it our all. I’m proud.

Round 16 Votes

3 - DemonJim [21 touches, 10 tackles]
2 - Dero [23 touches, 7 marks, 1 goal]
1 - Proper Gander [10 kicks, 2 tackles, 6 goals]

Poster Of The Week:

POTW Callums_Guns.png

Poster Of The Year
5. Poster Of Year Header.png

We are a fantastic posting side.

I know our posting numbers were down from Season 29, and I completely understand why, but in spite of that I think we’ve got a great mix of humour, self-deprecation, aggro and engaging banter with opposition.

There were weeks through Season 30 where many of us couldn’t find the energy or time to come and hang out in the Sweet F.A. While for some this place is an oasis, for others it can be ‘another thing to do’ on top of managing an otherwise crazy COVID life.

As a Captain, my philosophy is to try to ensure people are having fun and getting everything out of the league that they’re looking for. We love seeing you all as much as is possible for you, and I 100% believe that when we rock up, there’s no better posting side in the comp.

Following on from last season, we have continued with the Poster Of The Year award, after Headless was recognised with the inaugural recognition in Season 29. I went through every match thread and personally selected a poster of the week, based not only on the number of posts (although this helps), but on quality of banter and working good areas with the opposition.

So, onto the winner of the Season 30 Poster of The Year award.

I don’t know how this guy does it. He works crazy hours and has a busy family life to juggle, but he still manages to front up to the Sweet F.A. every single week and proudly fly the flag for our club.

He tags us, he nags us, he bloody well ENGAGES US. He provides a sharp wit and a clever sense of timing, and works his bum off to get the most out of everyone. He posted more than any of us in Season 30 and is improving with every season he plays.

There is no more deserving winner of this award than Callums_Guns.

Congratulations mate.

Freaking spot on captain. He just brings the rest of us into it. Well deserved Callums_Guns

Feels so amazing, she is so proud !

Thank you and apologises to all in what was extremely difficult year for all of us

Great stuff Mang

well done to Tarks, DJ, CG, Heady, Mang so far

and can I say it’s an honour to be named in the HoF, thanks to you all for being great teammates

❤️❤️❤️❤️

Deestroy Medal - Third Place
So now onto our final placings in the Season 30 Deestroy Medal count.

Congratulations once again to everyone who played this season, no matter how the SIM treated you.

In third place in the vote tally is last season’s winner. She didn’t enjoy the same ruck dominance as in previous seasons, but Proper Gander still showed throughout the season why she’s such a quality Qooty player. There were matches she had a huge say in through the season.

Third-Place.gif

Congratulations on your third top 3 placing in a row!

I'm so glad your mum comes to every game.

Deestroy Medal - Second Place
In second place is another poster who has managed 3 top 3 placings in a row…

Second-Place.gif

CG, in spite of a shaky season for our club, you were a real standout not only with your posting but your stats. You were a very deserving winner of your All-SFA spot (your third in a row) and are becoming a dominant midfield force in this competition.

You are our rock.

Congratulations on second place.

Deestroy Medal - Winner...
But of course, this means that the winner of the Season 30 Deestroy Medal is none other than…

Winner.gif

Mate – you played off a wing all season and were absolutely dominant. We nominated you for a spot as an All-SFA Winger, and were it not for two other posters pipping you on DT points and higher posts per week, you’d have had it.

Your second half to the season was nothing short of outstanding, and you’re a deserving winner of this honour in Season 30.
